All Russian soldiers fighting Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine could be forced to donate their sperm before setting off – the unsettling idea was proposed by an army general’s wife
Russian soldiers fighting Vladimir Putin’s bloody war in Ukraine could be forced to donate their sperm for a chilling reason.
Hundreds of thousands of soldiers are currently fighting in the Russian invasion, and several thousand more have died in the process, approximately 70,000 according to the latest estimations. The massive number of deaths is thought to be taking a toll on the Russian population, which was already on decline pre-war.
Men called up to fight the war by Putin have now been told to donate sperm to boost the country’s flagging population even if they are killed in action. The proposal, made by an army general’s wife, has emerged from the Public Chamber, a body which advises the Kremlin despot.
Demanding the establishment of a military sperm bank, commander’s wife Ekaterina Kolotovkina, 40, said: “We say all the time that the best are leaving us [killed in action], but we do not allow these heroes to leave a legacy behind. Surnames, dynasties and families are interrupted.
“Isn’t this what the enemy is trying to achieve? […] Freezing the sperm of [war] fighters would also help solve current demographic problems in Russia.” The mother of three – married to Lt-Gen Andrei Kolotovkin, 52 – went on: “Every day that we do not take action brings us closer to a critical point.”
Kolotovkina sensationally added that the wives and girlfriends of fighters who do not return from the war could give birth to their babies. And she went a step further, saying that donating sperm should be free for cadets of military schools, conscripts, and those who sign contracts with the Ministry of Defence.
Kolotovkina has previously called on army wives to help their men “crush” Ukrainians. The plan ran into opposition from Communist MP Nina Ostanina, 69, who compared the military sperm bank idea to cloning Dolly the Sheep. She said: “We have historically laid down the most important thing – the birth of children in a natural way.
“And the natural way is the love of a man and a woman, from which children are born. There have already been the cloned sheep Dolly and surrogate children. There is no guarantee that someone will not blackmail you with this later…I am always against such artificial intervention.”
But Professor Nikolai Atanov, of Buryat State University, has publicly demanded the state pays for a sperm bank for Russian soldiers. Natalya Strebkova, 64, a Russian human rights commissioner, has already established a scheme for soldiers in the war to provide semen for a sperm bank in the Khanty-Mansi region of Siberia.
“This is very important for the continuation of family lines for military men. We have already formalised this initiative, and we are launching it on federal platforms [in Russia].” Russia is facing the worst birth rates since 1999 with increasing mortality rates, in part caused by Putin’s war.
