Queen Camilla broke away from the royals’ Balmoral holiday to make a special appearance at the Ebor Festival in York today where she and King Charles have two horses running in the day’s big race
Queen Camilla slipped away from her annual Balmoral summer break to make a surprise appearance at a glitzy day at the races.
The 78-year-old travelled to York for the annual Ebor Festival, where she and King Charles have two of their horses running in the race of the day, the EBF Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes.
Camilla is known to be a huge horse racing fan and beamed as she arrived at the course in a pale blue coat over the top of her floral dress with a cream wide-brimmed hat.
After meeting dignitaries at the course, she unveiled a plaque to commemorate the Juddmonte International Stakes, which is held at York Racecourse, being named by by the Longines World Racing Awards as the ‘World’s Best Race’ of 2024.

She also took the salute from the RAF Falcons display team and cut the ribbon to open the new Bustardthorpe Development at York racecouse following its refurbishment.
Following a tour of the grounds, she then made her way to the royal box, where she was seen holding a pair of binoculars to pay close attention to the action.
She will pay particular attention to the 4.10 race where her horses Rainbows Edge and Aeolian are in with a chance of claiming victory.
