Rangers devastated as fan dies after medical emergency at Dundee match

By staff10 August 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Rangers said on Sunday: “Everyone at Rangers is devastated to have learned of the passing of one of our supporters at yesterday’s match with Dundee.”

Rangers have paid tribute to a 70-year-old supporter who has died in hospital after being taken ill at Saturday’s match against Dundee.

The club say they are ‘devastated’ by the passing of the fan, who suffered a medical emergency in the Bill Struth Main Stand at Ibrox.

The club said on Sunday: “Everyone at Rangers is devastated to have learned of the passing of one of our supporters at yesterday’s match with Dundee.

“The thoughts of the entire club are with their family and friends. We will be reaching out to the family to offer our support at this deeply sad and difficult time.”

Saturday’s match ended in a 1-1 draw after James Tavernier scored a penalty in stoppage time to secure a point for Rangers, who had Nasser Djiga sent off just before the hour mark. Ryan Astley had given Dundee the lead just after half-time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were made aware of a 70-year-old man taking unwell during the Rangers v Dundee match at Ibrox on Saturday, 9 August, 2025.

“He was taken to hospital where he later died. Next of kin is aware. There are no suspicious circumstances.”

Fans paid tribute on social media, with one writing: “Devastating news Condolences to the friends & family of our fellow supporter.” Another added: “Thoughts are with his friends, family, and all those he knew at Ibrox. A tragic loss.”

One fan who was in the vicinity of the emergency wrote: “Watched this unfold sadly, Paramedics, police, stewards and fans all done a job yesterday working as hard as they could to save a life. Rest easy.”
