Rasmus Hojlund issues clear Man Utd reminder to Ruben Amorim

By staff10 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Rasmus Hojlund has continued his fine goal-scoring form by netting twice for Denmark in their World Cup qualifier against Belarus, with Manchester United star Patrick Dorgu also on target

Rasmus Hojlund has been on a goal-scoring spree since leaving Manchester United in the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old returned to Italy for the 2025/26 season, signing for Napoli on a season-long loan with a £38.3million buy-obligation clause included in the deal.

After netting for Denmark during the September international break in his first competitive outing, Hojlund marked his Napoli debut with a goal against Fiorentina. Despite failing to score in his next three appearances, he bounced back in style with a stunning brace against Sporting CP in the Champions League.

Just days later, Hojlund bagged the winning goal in a 2-1 triumph over Genoa and with his confidence soaring, it’s no shock that he’s been finding the back of the net while on international duty.

His first goal in the World Cup qualifier against Belarus on Thursday evening came just 19 minutes into the match when he slotted home from close-range. Right on the stroke of half-time, Hojlund doubled his tally, instinctively tapping the ball into an empty net from just a few yards out.

The initial shot that was saved into his path came from Patrick Dorgu, with the United wing-back finding the target just minutes later.

Hojlund turned provider when he unselfishly squared the ball to Dorgu after a pass in behind, showcasing what could have been for Ruben Amorim.

The latter played the entirety of the second half while Hojlund was subbed off in the 77th minute with Denmark going on to thrash their opponents 6-0.

Despite Amorim bringing him to United, Dorgu has found it tough to secure a regular starting berth and often finds himself on the bench against supposedly inferior opposition, particularly when Amad gets the nod on the opposite wing with Diogo Dalot slotting into his preferred role.

Three goal contributions from Hojlund will certainly catch United’s attention given his battles at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, it’s worth highlighting that his replacement Benjamin Sesko is enjoying a purple patch in front of goal.

Following a difficult beginning, the Slovenia striker netted his maiden goal for the club during the 3-1 loss to Brentford before finding the back of the net again in last weekend’s triumph over Sunderland, an achievement he branded a “dream come true”.

“This [scoring at Old Trafford] has been the moment I’ve dreamed about as a kid, because the atmosphere here is unbelievable,” he said.

“Not just after the goal, but after every tackle as well. It’s a dream come true, I’m happy we won.”
