Rasmus Hojlund offers instant response to Man Utd agreeing Benjamin Sesko transfer

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig with Rasmus Hojlund’s future increasingly uncertain as a result

21:22, 07 Aug 2025Updated 21:25, 07 Aug 2025

Rasmus Hojlund has ‘liked’ a post confirming Manchester United’s agreement to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian has been at the centre of a rollercoaster transfer saga, but he is now set to sign for the Red Devils after snubbing Newcastle’s more lucrative offer.

Ruben Amorim is now nearing his third significant summer signing, with Sesko now in Manchester to complete his medical and sign his contract. The Athletic reports that a deal worth €75.6million (£65.5m), plus €8.5m (£7.4m) in add-ons, has been agreed to strengthen United’s attacking line-up.

Bryan Mbeumo became the second summer recruit following his long-awaited switch from Brentford, while the deal to bring Matheus Cunha to the Theatre of Dreams was more straightforward as his release clause was activated.

The pursuit of Sesko has been widely reported, with the saga reaching its crescendo this week. Newcastle were first to have a bid accepted for the 22-year-old, before the Red Devils launched their own offer.

The Bundesliga club ultimately gave the green light to both, leaving Sesko to make the final decision – opting for Manchester over Newcastle

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has been giving updates throughout the saga, and on Thursday confirmed a total agreement had been reached, with the post going on to receive almost 2million likes from users, reports the Manchester Evening News.

And the social media account of United striker Hojlund was among those, despite the fact that Sesko’s arrival could mean increased competition for a starting spot.

The MEN reported on Wednesday that the former Atalanta striker seems resigned to being pushed out by Manchester United once Sesko finalises his move.

Sources close to the Dane have hinted that while being sidelined might boost Hojlund’s performance, he may ultimately need to consider a transfer before the September deadline if he remains out of favour.

His limited playing time could also jeopardise his spot in Denmark’s national squad. His nation are on track to qualify for next year’s expanded World Cup, but Hojlund lost his place in the team in June following a spell of just one goal in 15 appearances for his country.

During the recent pre-season tour in America, Hojlund shared his determination to secure his position in Amorim’s team. “I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens,” he declared.

“I’m still very young. I think people forget that sometimes. I’m only 22. Obviously, not every striker is scoring 100 goals at the age of 22 (like Erling Haaland).

“But I’ve learned a lot, I think you can see in my game. I’m starting to develop and become even better in the basics. Now it’s just about for me to sharpen myself and I’ve done very well in the pre-season so far. Just focusing on continuing that.

“Competition is fine with me. It sharpens me. I’m more than ready. I’m feeling sharp, so I’m welcoming everything that comes. I think it’s good with competition and it only sharpens the team.”
