Real Madrid offer fresh Kylian Mbappe update after star forward hospitalised

By staff19 June 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Real Madrid confirmed on Thursday that Kylian Mbappe had been hospitalised due to a digestive infection but the Frenchman now appears to be on the mend having returned to camp

Real Madrid have confirmed that Kylian Mbappe has left hospital following a brief health scare. The Frenchman was rushed for treatment after contracting gastroenteritis but he now appears to be on the mend.

A statement from Real Madrid on Thursday evening read: “Kylian Mbappé was discharged from hospital this afternoon and has returned to the Real Madrid training complex. Mbappé will continue with specific medical treatment and will gradually return to team activity.”

Xabi Alonso had previously given an insight into Mbappe’s condition. He said: “We still don’t know if he’ll be ready for the next match. He’s been dealing with a serious viral infection. We’ll monitor his progress closely in the coming days.”

And on Thursday afternoon, Madrid posted a brief update on Mbappe’s condition on their website, writing: “Our player Kylian Mbappe has acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalized for various tests and treatment.”

Real were without Mbappe for their opening Club World Cup group game against Saudi side Al-Hilal – a game that finished 1-1 after goals from Gonzalo Garcia and Ruben Neves.

They will hope that he can return to action for their next game as they take on Mexican club Pachuca. Real round off their group stage against Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg.

Mbappe enjoyed a sensational first season with Real Madrid after joining them on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. Despite a slow start to his career at the Bernabeu, he still managed to score 43 goals in all competitions.

Speaking after Madrid’s first game of the competition, Alonso said: “The difference between the first and the second half was the balance with the ball. We were more sure of ourselves with the ball in the second half, we had longer spells of possession, played a bit closer to them.

“We couldn’t keep hold of the ball in the first half and they took advantage of that, it drove them on. It was a tough day to go and press today. After the break, as we grew into the game offensively, we looked better. It wasn’t enough, but it was an improvement.”

On their next game, he added: “Almost every team in this group has a new coach. That’s us, Al Hilal and Pachuca. Madrid played them in the Intercontinental Cup last year and it was an even game. In the end, we won it. Every team is at the top level, we saw that today, it’s bound to be another tough one.”
