Rescue cat makes heartbreaking gesture as she looks for a forever home

By staff2 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Appletini, a six-year-old tortoiseshell domestic shorthair cat, has been searching for a home with Battersea for around 240 days, but is yet to be matched with the right owner

Making a mark amongst other rescue animals can be tough, but this cat has found a charming way to stand out. Appletini, a tortoiseshell domestic shorthair, has begun gathering presents for her foster carers as a way of expressing gratitude for their care.

The six-year-old has been seeking a family through Battersea for approximately 240 days – yet remains unmatched with suitable owners despite her thoughtful nature. A Battersea spokesperson said: “She has the sweetest habit of fetching apples from her foster home apple tree and bringing them to her humans as a gift which is one of the many ways she shows affection.”

She came to the animal sanctuary following changes in her previous owner’s situation and has been called a “sweet girl”

When not gathering fruit, she delights in pursuing string toys and will even toss her toy mice about before chasing them.

Her rehoming profile states: “She has been with Battersea since February of this year and is more than ready to put her roots down in a loving forever home.”

On social platforms, Battersea outlined their commitment to “be here for every dog and cat, not just those at our three centres”.

They stated: “Through our campaigning, we want to prevent the causes of poor dog and cat health and welfare. We’re focusing on four major pressure points: tackling harmful trends, driving up welfare standards in breeding, improving safety around dogs, and making more pet friendly properties.”

One user commented on their post: “Where would they be without Battersea.”

Another user chimed in: “Wonderful.”

A third user expressed: “I wish all pet owners took responsibility for their animals.”

Yet another user added: “How people can discard animals like rubbish is beyond me. Thanks to Battersea for their efforts and love.”

Founded in Holloway, London, in 1860, Battersea is one of the UK’s oldest and most renowned animal rescue centres.

While the exact number of animals they have assisted since opening their doors remains unknown, they successfully rehome thousands of animals every single year.

Anyone interested in rehoming Appletini or any other cat at Battersea should complete an online application and then email Battersea’s rehoming team at [email protected]. uk.
