Retro 90s packaging is back at Tesco – but customers spot one ‘major problem’

Nostalgic Brits have spotted the return of a variety of retro products in Tesco and, whilst that has been met with delight from many shoppers, some have pointed out a “major flaw”.

The supermarket giant is celebrating 30 years of its Clubcard, which enables customers to save up points for future savings, as well as snap up some goods in store at a discounted price. To mark the occasion, Tesco has added 19 food and drink products to its shelves in their 1990s packaging.

TikTok user TripleEats visited a store to showcase in a video exactly what retro items are available. The clip began by highlighting bottles of Pepsi and Pepsi Max in their red and white colours of old, while Foxy’s Rocky chocolate biscuit bars and a variety of Patak’s Indian food products have returned to their former guise.

Several flavours of soft drinks, 7Up, Tango and Robinson’s have also made the change, as have tins of Heinz Tomato Soup and Blue Dragon curry pastes.

“God I wish they’d keep things like this… it’s more fun, colourful and rememberable than the dullness we have now,” one TikTok user declared in response. Whilst another agreed, adding: “Brings back so many memories when times was so much better.”

Scores of others, however, hit out that one thing that hadn’t made a comeback were the 90s prices. “And where’s the 90s prices to go with it?” one person asked.

A second fumed: “How about prices from 30 years ago? Rip off merchants.” A third added: “It’s a shame they haven’t bought back the prices from back then as well.”

A fourth person exclaimed: “I noticed they haven’t brought back the 90s prices. Shame.” Whilst a fifth TikTok user said: “Can we have the 90s prices for them as well for a true celebration?”

Shama Wilson, Tesco Group Membership and Loyalty Director, said in a statement this week: “Tesco Clubcard has been delivering great value for 30 years, and we’re thrilled to mark this milestone by bringing back some of the most-loved products in their classic designs.

“We hope these nostalgic treats bring back fond memories and add a little fun to your shopping trip. The retro products will be available in stores until April 21.”

Tesco shoppers can snap up the following 90s-style food items:

  • Wagon Wheels Original – £1.50
