Ricky Hatton’s son ‘couldn’t ask for more’ as he responds to Oasis tribute at Wembley

Ricky Hatton’s son Campbell reacted to Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher paying tribute to the boxer at their Wembley Stadium concerts over the weekend

Ricky Hatton’s son Campbell said he ‘couldn’t ask for more’ as he responded to Oasis’s touching tribute to their Wembley Stadium gigs. Liam and Noel Gallagher took to the stage over the weekend for their extra London dates before jetting off to Asia to continue their reunion tour.

Former boxer Ricky, who was a long-time friend of the Gallagher brothers, was given a heartfelt send-off during the concerts following his shock death in mid-September. Oasis dedicated their hit track Live Forever to the boxer during their September 27 and 28 shows.

The star was found dead in his home in Greater Manchester at the age of 46 on September 14. No cause of death has been announced, with police not treating his death as suspicious.

Following Oasis’ final London shows, Campbell responded to the tribute, revealing he “couldn’t ask for any more”.

During an interview with ITV News, Campbell said the Hatton family were “absolutely heartbroken” before revealing they’re “also die-hard Oasis fans, all of us”.

In response to Oasis’ tribute, he said: “I couldn’t ask for any more and the support we’ve had from everyone has been unbelievable.”

Liam and Noel, who once walked Ricky to the ring in Las Vegas in 2008, separately paid tribute to the boxer upon hearing about his death.

Writing on social media, he said: “Absolutely devastated to hear the news about RICKY HATTON it was an absolute honour to know him and carry his belts RIP CHAMP LIVE FOREVER LG x”

Noel later spoke about his late pal during an appearance on TalkSport. He said: “We don’t know what has happened, but he did struggle with mental health, and it just shows you that you never really know.

“It is such a shame because he is a great Mancunian, and a lovely, lovely lad; he was one of us.”

He then recalled Ricky’s journey with Oasis on their South American tour, explaining: “He came along with all his mates for the week, and it was like he was part of the band for a week.”

Ricky, who was known as ‘The Hitman’ during his fighting career, described the Gallagher brothers carrying out his two belts in Las Vegas as one of the highlights of his career.

“Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be a boxing world champion, support Man City and listen to Oasis,” he said.

“But I became a four-time world champion in two weight classes, ended up boxing at the Etihad Stadium in front of 55,000 people, and became mates with Noel and Liam Gallagher over the years.”
