Rio Ferdinand has opened up about his most intimate relationship moments with his wife, former TOWIE star Kate, and has shared a unique fear that he believes could end his relationship
Rio Ferdinand has revealed the ultimate “dealbreaker” in his marriage to wife Kate Ferdinand that could spell disaster for their otherwise happy union.
The couple, who got together in 2016 and wed in an extravagant ceremony three years later, joyfully parent a blended brood including two young children of their own, Cree and Shae, plus Rio’s three kids from his previous marriage to his late wife Rebecca Ellison.
In a heartfelt chat on Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch’s podcast ‘The Therapy Crouch’, which aired earlier this year, Rio opened up about what could jeopardise his relationship with Kate and it concerns bathroom habits. The former Man United hero and current pundit confessed to a quirky habit that he follows while away on holidays.
He opts not to use their hotel room toilet for his number twos, instead preferring to wander about looking for a different loo, even if that means searching in the middle of the night. The 45 year old football icon acknowledged: “We go on holiday and we have a room. I know there’s loads and loads of people that are doing late night shifts that have seen me walking round hotels in the middle of the night looking for a disabled toilet or a spare toilet – to go for a number two. Because I refuse to do it in the same room. I’ve got a serious issue.”
Former TOWIE sensation Kate, who has also graced Celebrity Gogglebox alongside Rio, has her own quirky methods of keeping the flames of romance fanned in her relationship with Rio, reports OK!. The footy legend had quite a story to tell: “Kate has never farted in her life. She doesn’t even go for a number two. If she farted in front of me I swear it could be over, romantically.”
In a candid chat with Peter and Abbey, Rio dished out another rib-tickling tale about a friend’s peculiar loo layout – a pair with thrones side by side. Rio made it clear that getting too cosy in the loo is ‘horrendous’ to him, insisting on a certain level of privacy. Kate, 32, chimed in firmly supporting her hubby’s stance, saying: “We can’t even talk about that word.”
And if you think that’s bizarre, consider Rio’s recent confession: he has trouble eating at home because of his unconventional dining manners, which sparked a little domestic debate during their stint on Celebrity Gogglebox. As Rio puts it, nobody wants to be around him when eating unless theres loud music drowning out his unique crunch: “I struggle to eat now in the house. If we haven’t got music playing on full blast, you don’t want to sit near me nor do the boys, and especially Tia,” he confided to Kate.
Kate quipped to Rio, “Do you not think it might just be a ‘you thing’ now then? It’s not an ‘us thing’.” Yet Rio countered by mentioning that throughout his life no one has “ever said anything” about the way he eats. With a chuckle, Kate suggested, “I think people are just being nice,” as Rio jumped into defence mode.
He stated, “I’ve been around all my teammates for years in close proximity, and no one has gone ‘oh my god, Rio is like the wildest eater’.” “It’s like a washing. machine! ” she told him, to which he was firm in his belief that his eating habits can’t be that disruptive. He argued that football is the “harshest environment” and still no one “ever said it”.
