Roy Keane brings Crystal Palace back down to earth within minutes of FA Cup victory

By staff17 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Crystal Palace made history on Saturday afternoon as they claimed their first-ever FA Cup crown against Manchester City at Wembley and Roy Keane made an amusing comment about their celebrations

Roy Keane jokingly warned Crystal Palace not to get too carried away in their FA Cup celebrations, with more Premier League games set to be played. The Eagles made history at Wembley on Saturday as they beat Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley.

Eberechi Eze’s goal was enough to seal victory, with the final whistle triggering wild celebrations in the Palace half of the national stadium. But former Manchester United star Keane was somewhat of a party pooper.

He joked that Oliver Glasner’s side need to keep their post-match celebrations in check due to their upcoming Premier League commitments. Palace take on Wolves at Selhurst Park on Tuesday ahead of rounding off their season against Liverpool at Anfield on the final day.

Speaking on ITV’s coverage of the FA Cup final, Keane said: “I hope they don’t celebrate too much, they’ve got a game on Tuesday!”

Host Mark Pougatch had an equally as amusing response to his colleague as he replied: “I hope they celebrate UNTIL Tuesday.”

Elsewhere, it appears that Palace boss Glasner is not too bothered if his players go overboard having already cancelled the side’s latest training session, while his stars are attempting to convince him to cancel even more.

He said: “Tomorrow’s training is already cancelled. The players want to cancel Monday too. Special credit to the players, they’ve never lost belief in me and the coaching staff.

“If you play this game 10 times, we win it once and that happened today. We scored the first time we were in their half and then we defended with every single phase of the body and a great goalkeeper, a great mentality and togetherness. I’m really proud of the team and the staff – congratulations, all the credit goes to them.”

Palace chairman Steve Parish has dedicated the Eagles’ historic victory to the club’s supporters – who will no doubt be celebrating late into the night. He said: “Unbelievable.

“We owe them [ Crystal Palace ] a trophy and we got them one today. This for everyone that has sent me a bit of encouragement when it has been going badly, all the people that don’t just have a go at you, all the people that believe – this is for them.

“I am so proud. The team, the fans, I honestly believed that we would win. That’s what Oliver’s [Glasner] done. He made us all believe. You could see it at the end. It is great for the cup, come on!”
