Roy Keane calls out three Man Utd stars after Chelsea defeat: “Not good enough”

Manchester United suffered their 18th defeat of a miserable Premier League campaign, after losing 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with Roy Keane ripping into Ruben Amorim’s players

Roy Keane has said he wouldn’t bank on Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Kobbie Mainoo being the ones to help transform Manchester United’s fortunes. The Red Devils suffered their 18th defeat of a desperate Premier League season on Friday night, with Marc Cucurella securing a 1-0 win for Chelsea.

Another loss leaves United in 16th place in the table and set for their worst finish since they were relegated from the top flight in 1974. They can still salvage their campaign and secure Champions League football next term – but only if they beat Tottenham in the Europa League final next week.

But ex-Old Trafford skipper Keane was less than impressed with what he saw at Stamford Bridge, reserving extra criticism for three of Amorim’s squad. Delivering his verdict on Sky Sports post-match, Keane didn’t mince his words about United’s performance.

The former United captain was quizzed on whether he’d ‘fight’ to retain the services of Mainoo, Hojlund, and Garnacho should offers come in during the summer. Keane responded: “I wouldn’t be hanging my hat on those three to get Man United [back].

“Mainoo comes on tonight, I watched him closely – he’s strolling around, some of his passes were sloppy. Garnacho is immature. He plays in little moments, but he doesn’t do enough.

“We spoke before the programme – you want players for the big clubs that turn up week in, week out. He doesn’t do that. He’s got a bit of talent; he makes some good runs and threatens in behind.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

“On his good day, you think, ‘I like what I see.’ But he’s got too many bad days. And Hojlund, in his defence, I think he should have been a backup striker, third or fourth choice, and learnt his trade off of two or three brilliant strikers.

“The fact that when he came to the club he was going to be the main man, he’s not good enough! He’s obviously lacking in confidence and belief and he’s not surrounded by brilliance either.

“The problems we’ve spoken about at Manchester United all season are still there. Now if people think they can fix that in one summer then it’s not going to happen.”

Jamie Redknapp concurred: “[Leny] Yoro’s obviously not going to be sold he’s only just come to the club. I find it hard to disagree with Roy. Pretty much every single player, there’s a price on all of them.

“That just tells you where they are. You look at that and you’d probably be nervous for that squad going into Champions League football. It’s not all of a sudden going to become better overnight.

“It’s not going to become better because they’ve got a little bit of experience. So, I think pretty much every single player, Jason Wilcox and the new CEO [Omar Berrarda], will look at it and go, ‘If the offer’s right and then we can bring in somebody younger and better, we’ll have to do it’.”
