Roy Keane reveals Arsenal and Liverpool Premier League title verdict – ‘Big pressure’

Liverpool and Arsenal finished first and second respectively in the Premier League last season, with the Gunners now all-set to take on Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Roy Keane reckons Arsenal can now win the Premier League after strengthening their squad during the summer transfer window. The Gunners signed Eberechi Eze, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres, all of whom have gone straight into their main starting line-up.

Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Piero Hincapie also arrived to improve their squad depth even further. Max Dowman can now play for the first-team this season after age restrictions prevented the 15-year-old from doing so last term.

After losing 1-0 to Liverpool at Anfield before the September international break, Arsenal face another test of their title credentials as they host Manchester City. Before that match, Keane discussed their title chances on Sky Sports.

“Liverpool have done what they’ve been good at for the last year,” he acknowledged, “winning football matches. They’ve put the pressure back on Arsenal and City.

“City, already having lost two league games, you have to think that if they lost today, there would be a long way back [to win the league]. So, very much pressure on both teams.

“If you’re looking at both squads, you’re thinking Arsenal probably are going to be the nearest rivals to Liverpool. A big pressure, even today, you think a draw; a draw wouldn’t even be great for Arsenal.

“They certainly have the players and all the capabilities of beating City. Over the last few years, every time I’ve seen City at Arsenal, in terms of trying to win the league title, I’ve never felt Arsenal had enough, had enough strength in depth, obviously lacked that striker.

“I look at Arsenal’s group of players now… I think they certainly have the players capable of winning the league.

Keane’s fellow pundit Micah Richards later claimed they would not write Man City off if they lost, but the Irishman interjected: “You will have to if they lose. Liverpool only lost four [matches] last season, so if you lose three [times] already into September…”
