Ruben Amorim will take charge of his first Manchester United game against Ipswich this weekend and has already spoken out in a press conference ahead of his Premier League debut
Ruben Amorim is out to fix two glaring Manchester United issues after sending a clear demand to his stars.
The former Sporting Lisbon boss takes charge of his first Red Devils game this weekend as his side travel to Ipswich. It will see Amorim attempting to continue the momentum set by his predecessor Ruud van Nistelrooy. United won three of the four games they played under the control of the Dutchman after he replaced Erik ten Hag.
And now Amorim has had a chance to get his feet under the table, he is out to fix two damaging habits that the Red Devils picked up under their former boss. Speaking at his introductory press conference, he said: “If you want to speak about the team and the way we play I think we lose the ball too often.
“And we have to be better on running back, that is clear to everybody! We think we have to change big things, but sometimes it’s the small things. In the small things I can help a lot.”
Amorim immediately has the chance to get the Red Devils into the top half of the Premier League table with victory against Ipswich. But despite the new manager already knowing some of the major flaws that need to be worked on, he believes that it might be a long process to get the club back on track and ready to challenge for major honours.
He added: “I have a contract of two-and-a-half years. I think in two years you can understand if I’m the right manager to go in this process. We will need more time.
“If you look at the clubs who are winning this league, they have been doing this process for a long time. I understand we will need more than two and a half years and that we have to win something, somewhere, but in two years you can understand if you want to continue this part or change.”

Following their clash with Ipswich, Amorim then has the chance to lead United into Europe for the first time. The Red Devils take on Bodo/Glimt next week at Old Trafford – a game that represents Amorim’s first home match.
Asked if he could have an immediate impact, Amorim replied: “You guys think it is not possible, I think it’s possible. We have space to grow as a team. I think we have to improve in a lot of areas, the understanding of the game, it’s a different way of playing and we are changing in the middle of the season.
“I think we have to improve the physical aspect of the team. I don’t know how long it will take, but I know if you are at Manchester United you have to win games, so I will not tell you I need a lot of time. It’s a great league, the strongest in the world, and we have to improve a lot. We have to win games and then to win titles.”
