Ruben Amorim issues response to Man Utd sack fears after Europa League final loss

By staff21 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Ruben Amorim has claimed he would leave his job at Manchester United if the hierarchy and the fans didn’t think he was the right man in the wake of their Europa League final defeat

Ruben Amorim has again maintained he will leave Manchester United “without hesitation” if the hierarchy do not think he’s the right man for the job. The 40-year-old is having to digest another blow after losing the Europa League final.

The Portuguese manager hasn’t even been in charge for a year but he’s struggled to make a positive impact and has said on several occasions he would leave his role if others felt he couldn’t deliver. His team have endured a horrendous Premier League season, but had hope in Europe.

That is now over after losing to Tottenham. Brennan Johnson scored the winner for Tottenham, who can now boast about beating the Manchester outfit for times this season. Amorim’s selection will come in for scrutiny with Mason Mount struggling to impact the game despite starting ahead of Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine turned out to be among the team’s brightest sparks when he emerged from the bench.

Amorim’s style and philosophy have not helped the team and the former Sporting Lisbon man has refused to shown any pragmatism or changes his ways and knows that may prove costly – which is fine with him.

He said: “I have nothing to show to the fans, so at this moment it’s a little bit of faith. So let’s see. I’m always open. If the board and the fans feel I’m not the right guy, I will go the next day, without any conversation about compensation. But I will not quit.

Harry Maguire aims five-word dig at Tottenham star in furious Europa League Final reaction

“I’m still really confident in my job and, as you can see, I will not change anything in the way I do things. I am always really honest. But I’m not going to talk about the future – tonight we need to deal with the pain of losing this match. It was clear we were the better team, but we managed not to score again. The guys tried everything to win the game and I think we were better than the opponent.”

United’s defeat in the Europa League final is the latest blow in what has been one of their worst seasons for decades. Several of the club’s leading lights had already confessed that any trophy would not salvage their season given that they languish down in 16th.

Already there are doubts around Amorim, who has been unable to enjoy any new manager bounce since arriving in Manchester. He rocked up in November but has struggled for results with their European exploits covering for horrendous domestic form.

After losing to West Ham recently Amorim shouldered all the blame for their failings as he said: He said: “It’s not the players’ fault. It’s my fault, I’m responsible. If we cannot change that really fast, we should give our place to different persons”.
