Ruben Amorim makes Casemiro admission after red card in Man Utd win – ‘He will suffer’

By staff21 September 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Manchester United had to face Chelsea with ten men in the second-half as Casemiro was sent-off for two yellows card with his head coach bemoaning his actions that led to his dismissal

Ruben Amorim refused to stick the boot in on Casemiro but admitted the midfielder “will suffer” after as he comes to terms with his red card in Manchester United’s win over Chelsea

The Red Devils were in cruise control before the Brazilian got himself sent off just before half-time to give the Blues a glimmer of hope ahead of the second half. The former Real Madrid man had scored United’s second to put them 2-0 ahead but, whilst being on a yellow card, made another risky challenge and saw a second yellow brandished by the referee. It halted United’s momentum and prevented them from being as dominant.

The second-half was much more even and Trevoh Chalobah scored late to set up a tense final ten minutes. And while United survived, Amorim feels Casemiro’s experience means that the blunder will stick with him. He told BBC Sport: “He’s [feeling] worse than me. We won so I will forget a little bit and he will suffer because he’s a top professional. He understands what he did. He is experienced enough that that play should not be played like that. He cares too much.

“We suffered in the end but we deserved the win. Our crowd, our fans are easy to please. If you give everything they will be there. That is something our players need to understand. To have the crowd with us we just need to run, to fight and tackle. With this win we have to forget the good feeling of winning the game and get back to the urgency of feeling we need to win the next game.”

Amorim joked that his side “like to complicate our game always but it was a good day” whilst he admitted it was on the hosts to “finish the game off sooner” with Chelsea themselves going down to ten men after just five minutes when Robert Sanchez was sent-off.

The win eases the pressure on the Portuguese head coach, who saw his side dominated in the Manchester derby last weekend. Amorim met with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in midweek and retains the support of the hierarchy despite his dire record since taking charge.

The Brazilian’s foul on Andrey Santos saw him dismissed

Bruno Fernandes, who scored his 100th goal for the Red Devils to open the scoring, hailed the team’s defensive effort as they dug in for the three points. He said: “We had one more man on the pitch before Casemiro was sent off. We defended really well and even conceding one goal, we got the result that we wanted at the end.”

United now have seven points from their opening five games, which includes fixtures with Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea. The win over the Blues leave Amorim’s side sitting in tenth as things stand.
