Ruben Amorim takes charge of Manchester United for the first time in the Premier League as the Red Devils make the trip to Portman Road to take on Ipswich Town and former coach Kieran McKenna
Ruben Amorim has named the first starting lineup of his Manchester United tenure to face Ipswich Town.
The former Sporting CP boss, who was appointed at the beginning of November to succeed Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, takes charge for the first time.. Amorim has made three changes to the final lineup named by interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy before the international break.
It remains to be seen whether the new head coach will implement his favoured 3-4-3 formation with four defenders named in the XI and Lisandro Martinez dropping out of United’s lineup, and the squad, for Jonny Evans. That sees Matthijs de Ligt, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui also lining up in front of goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Christen Eriksen also comes into the team in favour of Manuel Ugarte in the centre of the field. The Denmark international will partner Casemiro at the base of midfield with Ugarte joined on the bench by Kobbie Mainoo who makes his return after missing England’s international fixtures due to injury.
Marcus Rashford looks set to lead United’s forward line with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee only among the substitues. Bruno Fernandes is set to offer support alongside Alejandro Garnacho who comes into the starting XI after scoring against Leicester in his last Premier League game.
Amad Diallo retains his place among the forward players, with Amorim appearing to start three players behind Rashford, his hand perhaps forced by a lack of central defenders available to start three in defence. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are his defenders available off the bench.
Speaking before making the trip to Suffolk, Amorim spoke of his feelings ahead of his Premier League coaching debut. “I feel a little anxious,” he said.
“But not only for me, but also for my players, because we changed things and I want my players to feel comfortable and happy during the game. Anxious, but excited.” #MUFC
