Greens are crucial for our well-being, as they provide the essential nutrients and energy our bodies need. Runner beans are a staple in many UK households, and despite their simplicity, adding this one ingredient will quickly turn them into a kitchen masterpiece.

Runner beans are versatile and the perfect side dish, commonly known for being sliced thinly on the diagonal. Cooking is about experimenting with different ingredients – therefore, it’s not essential to be an expert in the kitchen, but to have some passion to play around and come up with your own recipes.

So, if you’ve ever wondered how to make the best garlicky runner beans, keep reading. It’s super easy!

How to prepare runner beans

Ingredients:

  • Fresh runner beans
  • Garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Extra ingredients of your choice

Method:

As shared by Cuisine Fiend, although it might seem easy to cook, it takes some work and patience. Runner beans tend to be fragile and need to be sliced and parboiled. Remember to do it diagonally, using the right knife, and some gloves.

Parboiling takes around five minutes after plunging them into the boiling water and bringing them to a simmer. Doing so will make their texture crunchy rather than tough.

Once ready, it’s about adding different ingredients and experimenting. In this case, toast some garlic slices and breadcrumbs until they’ve lost their colour.

After that, transfer the runner beans to the saucepan and toss them around with other ingredients of your choice, including butter, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper to taste.

The good thing about runner beans – and greens, in general – is that they can be a great accompaniment to many dishes, such as pasta and salads, as well as other heavier dishes, like curry and rice. Once they’ve been well-mixed with the flavours of garlic, they become so addictive!

By following these simple steps and using an item that’s probably already on your kitchen counter, you will elevate the taste of your side dish. It doesn’t require many ingredients or extra time and effort. Oh, and the results are finger-licking, and you’ll be wanting to do this again.
