US and Russian generals are trading warnings of an Armageddon reality, with Moscow accused of plotting to wipe out Britain and Nato vowing to crush any Russian move on Poland
Top Russian and US generals are warning the world is edging closer to an Armageddon reality as fears of a “coming Third World War” grow.
One Kremlin goal, it’s claimed, is to “wipe out” Britain with a “nuclear tidal wave”, while former American military Commander in Europe, Ben Hodges, has issued a stark warning to Vladimir Putin that any strike on Poland would trigger a devastating NATO response.
“If Russia attacked [Poland] today in the same way it attacked Ukraine, it would have been destroyed by NATO air forces and Alliance ground forces,” Hodges said, adding that Russia’s key naval strongholds in Kaliningrad and Sevastopol would be among the first to fall.
“You can be sure Kaliningrad would be eliminated in the first hours, in the opening hours,” the retired lieutenant general told Polish media outlet Vot Tak. “All Russian facilities would be destroyed. Any Russian military facilities in Sevastopol [in occupied Crimea, Black Sea], too.”
He suggested an attack on a NATO state would be worlds apart from the current “trench warfare” in Ukraine, which had similarities to the First World War.
Andrey Gurulev, Bellicose Russian retired general and hardline MP, said in response to Hodges: “We must prepare for a major war.” He went on: “The former commander of US forces in Europe gleefully announced that they’ll quickly demolish Kaliningrad and Sevastopol. These are NATO plans, and they’re quite realistic. They’re conducting exercises, including near our borders, to try to demolish our Kaliningrad and Sevastopol. And our task is to prevent the demolition of Kaliningrad, Sevastopol, or any other populated area on Russian territory.”
Kaliningrad – home of Russia’s Baltic Fleet – “must be an impregnable fortress… That means reserves, engineering fortifications, and protective structures for the civilian population,” said retired Lt-Gen Gurulev. “This means that we must take this extremely seriously.”
Hodges comments were not “just a statement” but a “real, existing threat” from NATO. “There must be clear plans for how Kaliningrad will become [joined to the rest of Russia] without some kind of middleman like Lithuania.”
Currently Kaliningrad is cut off from the rest of Russia. Criticising Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, Gurulev said plans to save Kaliningrad “must be realistic, not like in 2022, when everyone was just running around, saying we’ll solve all the problems in two weeks.”
He added: “The enemy is preparing, it’s clearly visible, they’re preparing very hard, they’re trying to somehow succeed. It’s clear that today their main objectives are long-range air strikes, including missile strikes. They currently have a real problem with their ground forces. This needs to be built up… My friends, it’s the responsibility of the entire country to be prepared to repel an attack.”
A new world war could start with the use of a “single” Tomahawk missile in Ukraine, which Donald Trump made clear he may supply to Kyiv, according to Russian propaganda TV military expert Andrei Klintsevich and Putin attack dog Vladimir Solovyov. Moscow has claimed such missiles are nuclear capable, despite no suggestion from the US that it is supplying Ukraine with atomic weapons.
Use of the Tomahawk was “the start of a nuclear war,” claimed Solovyov. His warning echoes those of ex-president Dmitry Medvedev. “We will first have to strike at the storage and deployment sites of nuclear launchers and decision-making centres,” said Solovyov.
He also promised to turn the UK into a sea called the Strait of Comrade Stalin “and wipe out this incomprehensible little British spitball”. Klintsevich said Russia’s new high speed underwater nuclear drone Poseidon should be used against Britain, adding Putin had hinted at imminent tests.
