Ruth Langsford revealed on Mother’s Day that her mum Joan was down with an illness, and recently updated fans to share that she was now so unwell she had to go to hospital
Loose Women star Ruth Langsford has shared a troubling update about her mum after a series of health crises. In a post shared on her Instagram Stories today, Ruth’s mum was shown in hospital after falling ill days ago.
Ruth, 65, lives with her mum Joan, 94, and acts as her carer when she’s not busy at work. The duo are joined at home by their pooch Maggie, after Ruth’s life was overturned by her split from GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes last year.
On social media today, Ruth first shared a worrying photo as she escorted Joan to get professional medical help. Ruth appeared to be sitting on a chair at Joan’s bedside, capturing her mum’s legs covered by a blanket in the dim room.
“Another hospital visit for Mum last night… chest infection got the better of her. They sent her home after a few hours of care though…..thank you to all the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital, Surrey for looking after us so well,” the former This Morning star wrote alongside the photo.
An hour later, she got back on the app to share that Joan was back at home. Ruth shared a short snip of her mum next to her on the sofa, stroking Maggie as the dog protectively kept a paw on her leg. “She’s home and a bit brighter today… nurse Maggie is on watch again!” Ruth celebrated.
The final Story was very similar to one posted just days ago, when Ruth first revealed that Joan had a chest infection and was so unwell that she couldn’t celebrate Mother’s Day.
On the big day, Ruth shared a clip of Joan dancing in the kitchen, but revealed that it was a throwback video while in reality her mum was struggling with a health issue and wasn’t up to singing or dancing.
“HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all you wonderful mums out there but especially to my amazing Mum Joan. I’m sharing an old video because unfortunately Mum’s not well… she’s got a nasty chest infection so she’s not up to celebrating today,” she wrote to her fans.
“Maggie and I are with her though and giving her lots of TLC. I’m sure she’ll be back peeling the veg, dancing and drinking sherry in my kitchen very soon. Hope you’re all having a lovely day with your Mum if you’re fortunate, like me, to have her.”
Even before missing out on Mother’s Day, Joan also missed Christmas Day last year after she was rushed to hospital with a broken pelvis caused by a fall.
After a long hospital stay Ruth was able to head back home in January, but alongside the temporary health issues is also battling Alzheimer’s. While Joan is living with the condition, Ruth also lost her father, Dennis, to dementia in 2012.
