Ryan Reynolds told one signing that would take Wrexham to the Premier League

By staff29 April 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Wrexham have been tipped to make the step up to the Premier League after sealing their third straight promotion to the Championship and the club have been strongly linked with a move for Jamie Vardy

Ryan Reynolds has been urged to sign Jamie Vardy for Wrexham this summer with the belief he can help them to the Premier League. Reynolds’ team are on cloud nine after sealing a historic third straight promotion to the Championship and have now been tipped to make some major signings to make sure they stay there.

And former Tottenham and QPR boss Harry Redknapp has identified Vardy – who will leave Leicester at the end of the season – as the perfect player for the next chapter in Wrexham’s fairytale story. And despite being at the tail end of his career, Redknapp is confident that Vardy could get any Championship team promoted.

Veteran forward Vardy still managed seven goals in the Premier League for Leicester this season but couldn’t stop them from being relegated, but after scoring nearly 200 goals for the Foxes in the last 13 years at the King Power Stadium, he could still have something to give in the Championship.

Redknapp certainly thinks so, hailing Vardy as a “fantastic signing” for Wrexham as he said any team in the second tier should “move heaven and earth” to snap him up on a free transfer.

“Jamie Vardy would be a fantastic signing for Wrexham,” Redknapp told Bet Victor. “He could get any team promoted next season from the Championship, I still think he has a lot to offer in a team that can make chances for him. It would be a great move for Wrexham.

“I don’t think he will be on the radar of Premier League clubs, but that said, I think he’s fantastic. His work rate and everything about him is brilliant, if I was in the Championship I’d be moving heaven and earth to sign him.

“He would be a great value signing for any club, it’s a no brainer in my eyes – he gives everything and works so hard. I’d have him any day if I was managing a club who were trying to get promoted from the Championship, even a team like Burnley who have been promoted, his goals could help them stay up.”

Persuading Vardy to join is their biggest task if they really want him in Wales – as he wants to stay in the Premier League.

Redknapp believes Vardy’s experience could help take Wrexham to the Premier League

Wrexham certainly have the financial backing through Hollywood owners Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – plus an extra injection of cash after landing an £8m payday through TV revenue.

But manager Phil Parkinson has insisted the club have a “no superstars, no egos” policy and instead want to bring the right calibre of player into the squad who will not unbalance the “culture” of the team.

He said: “I think that a lot of tough decisions will be made this summer, in terms of who we bring in and how we add to this fantastic squad of lads we’ve got, but let’s see if we can build a squad to compete at that level.

“I think it’s interesting because the jump in salaries is incredible, mind-blowing. Even coming up to this level [League One], the jump to get players of Championship quality is expensive but obviously with the next level, I don’t think people outside football quite realise.

“We’ve always tried to make sure the culture in the club is right and I think that’s key – no superstars, no egos in the dressing room and we’ve got to try and get that balance right again. You always need extra quality when you go up a level to make sure the right people come into the building.”
