Sad fans reminisce after beloved dessert shop closes its doors after four short years in UK

By staff11 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Food fans have been left ‘devastated’ and say ‘this can’t be happening’ after spotting closed signs in windows of their local UK Cinnabon chains recently after the US bakery’s 4-year stint across the pond

‘Tis the season for all things pumpkin and cinnamon, and a cinnamon bun never goes amiss thanks to its sweet, buttery dough rolled in soft butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. While there are many bakery and dessert chains across the UK, Cinnabon has been a go-to for the sweet treats. However, fans have been left gutted after the US bakery chain has suddenly closed all of its UK chains after four years.

The company, first launch in the state of Washington, best known for its rich cinnamon buns, cookies, and funky frozen beverage flavours. In 2020, EG Group said it planned to open 150 Cinnabon bakeries across the country over five years as part of a master franchise deal. However, only 12 locations which have opened across high streets, shopping centres and petrol forecourts in major cities like London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, Liverpool, Nottingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh have now closed.

Customers have been left gobsmacked by the closures after raving about the products. In a post shared on TikTok Closed Retail Store UK, which showcased pictures of Cinnabon chains in the UK over the years, said: “Goodbye Cinnabon. You will be missed. Sorry you closed with such an immediate effect.”

People have spotted closure signs in the windows of Cinnabon chains in their local high streets.

“Nooooo, my 1000 cal cinnamons,” said one. “No this can’t be happening no,” added another. “I’m devastated,” commented another.

“They were actually really nice,” insisted another. One said they are “devastated” by the news.

Another said: “Was our treat; remember my mum and dad behaving Dartford tunnel to go the lakeside store to buy me one of my birthday. Will miss it.”

Others realised that they have missed out. One disappointed individual said: “Kept saying I was gonna try it then our local suddenly disappeared.”

Another added: “Always said I need to try it then never did.”

Others say they are not-so bothered. “Tried it once, was very overpriced,” shared another. “Only ever remember seeing one underneath Tottenham Court Road station,” said another.

One other said: “Had it delivered to my house once. Very expensive, it was nice but not £14 for a box of 4 nice.”

One other noted: “I think they didn’t market it well enough because I didn’t even know it existed.”

In a statement, the company said: “EG On the Move has made the strategic decision to close all Cinnabon locations operated in the UK.

“This was not a decision taken lightly, but it reflects the strategic shift to focus on our core convenience retail business. This decision aligns with our wider business strategy to focus on areas where we can deliver the greatest value to our customers.”
