Sad Primark fans say they can’t find beloved ‘£1 thongs’ but some spot something better

By staff16 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Primark shoppers have been left seething after claiming they can’t find the £1 thongs in the retailer anymore, however, there’s good news for lovers of the cheap underwear

Primark prices have risen in recent years. Where you might have previously snagged a top and a pair of jeans for £20, their co-ords are now fetching £20 and upwards each. But it’s the thongs that have really got tongues wagging, with numerous furious customers accusing Primark of hiking their prices to ridiculous levels regarding the underwear.

Nicole Amelie scrawled across her video: “Petition for Primark to bring back £1 thongs,” whilst holding up a three-pack to display the £7 price tag. “The girlies miss them,” she wrote beneath her clip. In the responses to the video, people were livid about the underwear.

One commented: “Amen to that!!! Especially when there’s only one cute pair in a pack”.

Someone else highlighted that these “aren’t even cotton,” with another woman remarking: “For all the ladies buying cheap underwear, please invest in cotton thongs and knickers; all these cheap ones are bad for us”.

“£7 and it’s recycled polyamide, yeah, Primark, we need to have some words,” a social media user raged.

On the item, it states the “product shell is made using a minimum 50% recycled polyamide”.

A TikTok user wrote: “I think it’s four or five for £12 at MandS and they are 100% cotton”. However, some commenters have noted that you can still find £1 thongs in Primark.

“They still do the ones for a £1 sometimes, you just have to look through them all to see them,” one person remarked. Another chimed in: “They do 5 packs for £3.50. I prefer them to the 3 packs for £7.”

However, these aren’t the ones with the fancy patterns.

Primark’s Floral Lace G-String Thong is priced at £1. The website describes it as: “The barely-there feeling on this G-string thong is made better by its chic lace appearance”.

Alternatively, if you’re more of a cotton fan, then the Five Pack Essential Thongs might be more your style. Available in white, black, or nude, the website states: “Comfortable and flattering in equal measure, these cotton thongs come in a handy pack of five”.

Healthline highlights that, although underwear in different materials can look seriously cute, cotton is the best fabric for underwear.

“The vulva is a very sensitive and delicate area, similar to the lips on your face. You want to treat I.T. gently,” explains Dr Alyse Kelly-Jones, a board-certified OB-GYN. She also stated: “You want your underwear to gently absorb any extra moisture,” which other materials do not.

Synthetic materials like nylon and spandex don’t allow the area to breathe. Instead, they trap heat and moisture, creating an ideal environment for yeast infections.

Natural, breathable fabrics, specifically cotton underwear, are the best choice for supporting your vaginal health. They may help reduce odours and the risk of yeast infections.
