Sainsbury’s Easter opening times 2025 – see when supermarkets will be open

By staff15 April 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Sainsbury’s has issued opening times guidance for the long Easter weekend, including if its larger shops will be open on Easter Sunday – here is everything you need to know

Sainsbury’s has shared its opening times for the Easter Bank Holiday weekend – and like other chains it will be closing stores this weekend. There are always two bank holidays over Easter, and each year shops, businesses, and supermarkets across the UK change their opening hours to reflect this.

The two bank holidays are Good Friday, which falls on April 18 this year, and Easter Monday, which is April 21. In the UK, Easter Sunday is classed as a public holiday – like Christmas Day – and under trading rules larger shops that are over 280 sq meters need to close on this day. Sainsbury’s has confirmed that it will be closing its larger supermarket stores on Easter Sunday.

Normally, Sainsbury’s superstores will open between 6am and 7am and close between 10pm and 11pm. Sainsbury’s convenience stores usually open from 6am or 7am to 10pm and 11pm – even on Sundays – and this will remain the same in the lead up to the bank holiday.

On Good Friday, Sainsbury’s superstores will be opening at 7am and will be closing as normal between 10pm and 11pm. This will again be the case on Saturday. After closing for the day on Sunday, they will reopen again from 8am to 8pm on Easter Monday.

Sainsbury’s convenience stores are not required to close on Sunday, and the majority of them will remain open. However, in the Mirror’s research, we have seen a few that do. These tend to be the chain’s city centre branches which tend to be a lot quieter over the weekends.

Sainsbury’s normally keeps its petrol stations open on bank holidays, even if the associated mega-store is closed for the day. Some Sainsbury’s petrol stations are open 24 hours, while most pull up their shutters between 5am and 8am and stay open until between 9pm and 11pm. Others don’t close until midnight and the majority have 24/7 pay at pump facilities.

These opening times will remain the same in the lead up to the bank holiday. On Good Friday they appear to be open as normal, while on Easter Sunday and Monday they appears to be open between 9am and 7pm.

This is just a guide, so before you head down to your local store you should check exact opening times on Sainsbury’s online store locator here. You can check the opening times of your local store by entering your postcode or sharing your location with your device.
