There have been a number of product recalls from a number of retailers
It might be worth inspecting your cupboards and fridges to see if you possess any products that have been withdrawn by the Food Standards Agency. Food items can be withdrawn for various reasons, including contamination with harmful bacteria such as listeria or salmonella which could cause food poisoning.
Additional causes include production defects, such as fragments of plastic or metal discovered in the item. Missing or inaccurate allergen details can also result in an allergen withdrawal. Food companies are accountable for withdrawing unsafe products, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The Food Standards Agency collaborates closely with local councils and the food sector to issue consumer alerts when food items are withdrawn. This week items have been withdrawn from retail giants Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and TK Maxx outlets.
Shoppers are typically advised to bring products back to shops and obtain a complete refund. Customers are cautioned against consuming or using withdrawn products for safety purposes.
The most recent product withdrawals and the steps you need to take if you own a withdrawn item are listed below:.
Sainsbury’s
This item was withdrawn by Sainsbury’s from its Habitat homeware section. Habitat Seed Pod Bowl Filler has been removed from shelves by the retail giant. Sainsbury’s is withdrawing the product as it could be “toxic” to people and pets if consumed.
- Product name: Habitat Seed Pod Bowl Filler.
- Product code: 146383921.
- Product description: Ornamental seed pods.
The supermarket confirms on its website: “If you have purchased, please bag and return to store for a full refund. Please do not dispose of in compost heaps, food or garden waste bins.
“We take the quality and safety of our products extremely seriously and would like to apologise to customers affected for any inconvenience this may cause. No other Habitat home products are affected by this recall.”
Sainsbury’s is withdrawing the product because the seeds contained within the pods pose a toxic threat to both humans and animals if consumed. The outer casing of the seed pod remains safe to touch.
The item fails to comply with standards set out in the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
