Samsung has issued an urgent reminder to all of its UK Galaxy owners that their devices will suddenly start blaring out a loud alarm later today. The noise and screen warning are all part of a test being pushed out by the UK government. In the future, this warning could be used to tell homes about life-threatening emergencies such as storms, flooding and wildfires.

Explaining more, Samsung said in a post on its newroom blog: “Samsung Electronics are letting our customers know that the UK government is testing the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday, 7 September 2025 at 3pm.

“Your mobile phone or tablet will vibrate and make a loud siren-like sound, even if it is set on silent.

“The alert message will confirm this is a test and that you do not need to take any further action.”

Of course, it’s not just Samsung devices that will be affected today. Other Android gadgets and iPhones will also blare out a loud sound as well.

Although today is just a test, it’s hoped that these new warnings could help prevent people being killed or injured in the future and it’s a good idea to be keep things switched on.]

If you really don’t want to hear the Emergency Alerts you can turn them off – we have ful details below.

How to opt out of the alerts

You can switch the system off, although that means you won’t get future messages or real-life warnings. It’s easy to stop the alerts.

iPHONE USERS: To opt out, Apple iPhone users should go to settings, search for “Emergency Alerts”, and turn off Severe & Emergency Alerts.

ANDROID USERS: Those with Android can do the same by searching “Emergency Alerts” in settings and switching off Severe & Emergency Alerts.

This isn’t the first time this system has been tested. The first alert was pushed out back in 2023. However, some phone users – using the Three network – didn’t receive the message. That’s something the UK government is trying to resolve this time around.
