A gas explosion has ripped through a bar in Spain, injuring several people in the surrounding areas Around 13 people were taken to hospital after the blast at the Casa Javi bar on Torres Fontes Street in Lo Pagán, San Pedro del Pinatar.
Local police, ambulances and firefighters rushed to the scene at around 12:23pm local time following 25 calls from members of the public, according to reports from regional news outlet La7. The bar was closed at the time but the explosion caused heavy damage to the building and nearby market stalls. The weekly street market was taking place right next to the bar, which is how the 13 people were left injured.
Images from the scene show the Casa Javi’s awning ripped in half and debris, such as doors, littering the popular market street in the centre of Lo Pagan. Market stalls and several other establishments have been damaged by what appears to be a powerful blast.
Of the three seriously injured, one person has been transferred to ICU at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia, while another has been admitted to the burns units at the same regional hospital. The third person with serious injuries has been rushed to the Los Arcos del Mar Menor Hospital in San Javier.
Three other less seriously injured people are between Los Arcos in San Javier and the Santa Lucía Hospital in Cartagena. Meanwhile, the remaining seven people with minor injuries are being treated at a local health center. No fatalities were reported as a result of the blast.
