It’s a bit different to the usual ‘free money’ offers
Santander is enticing customers with a £100 bonus and there’s no need to switch accounts. Typically, such incentives demand customers to transfer their main current account, including direct debits and salary payments, to claim a cash reward.
However, this week Santander has launched an offer that gifts customers a £100 Amazon gift card with just a few simple requirements. The crucial one being the customer must use their debit card 30 times within 60 days.
Money Saving Expert explained: “We were surprised to see this launch on Monday, as just last week Santander ended its offer of a £30 voucher for opening one of its accounts. It’s clearly still looking for more customers, as now just days later it’s back with a new and improved offer.
“Open a new Santander current account (whether you’re a new or existing customer) via the special links below and spend 30 times on the debit card within 60 days (if that’s a lot, just split your supermarket shopping up to qualify). Keep the account open and you’ll get a link to claim a £100 Amazon voucher from Feb 12, 2026, (if not, check your spam). Max one voucher per person, and you will be credit-checked.”
MSE has recommended The Everyday account as the best option if you’re simply after the voucher, given its lack of fees. It described the Edge account as “a top (joint) bills account, it costs £3/mth but pays 1% cashback (max £10/mth) on Council Tax, water, energy, broadband and other bills you pay from it via Direct Debit. Its debit card also gives near-perfect exchange rates abroad, so it can be very useful to run alongside your main account(s)”.
Another choice is Edge Up, which MSE said was similar, but “better if you’ve bigger bills as it pays a max £15/mth cashback for a £5/mth fee”. Lastly, there’s Edge Explorer, which is “a packaged bank account offering a range of insurance for a £17/mth fee”.
Alastair Douglas, CEO of TotallyMoney, said: “This week, Santander launched a new current account offer, with a £100 Amazon Gift Card up for grabs. But unlike the usual incentives, you won’t need to shut down your old account, or use the Current Account Switch Service. Instead, you’ll just need to make 30 debit card transactions within 60 days of opening. The transactions can include contactless payments, physical purchases, and online shopping – so in theory, you might not need to change how you spend, just the card you’re using.
“It’s worth noting that the offer isn’t available directly through Santander and only available via aggregators and comparison sites. You can claim the reward when opening the Everyday, Edge, Edge Up, or Edge Explorer accounts.
“Just watch out, because only the Everyday account is free, while the others will charge up to £17 per month. For the paid accounts, you will get added benefits such as cashback, insurance, and exclusive savings rates, which could come in handy.
“Always remember that loyalty doesn’t pay, but picking the right bank account can. Seven other banks are paying up to £200 for your current account custom, so shop around and find one that’s right for you. In addition to free money, you can also get better service, interest-free overdrafts and better savings rates.”
