A Sainsbury’s shopper has shared the amazing bargain they found in the supermarket’s post-Christmas sale – and people are seriously impressed with the price they paid for the turkey
The Christmas fun may have wrapped up, yet die-hard Christmas fans are still hankering for a succulent slice of turkey and all the festive trimmings as the days roll on.
For those plotting to polish off their remaining festive feast well into the weekend or perhaps cooking up a fresh turkey for relatives missed on Christmas Day, bargain-hunting continues. And it seems one shrewd shopper from the ‘BARGAIN LOVERS Poundland, Home Bargains, B&M, Primark, The Range and More’ hit the jackpot with their recent find.
In an impressive haul, they discovered a Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference British Free Range Traditionally Dressed Game Hung Turkey, catering for 10-12 people, and the staggering price drop certainly caused a stir.
Originally priced at £70.32, this discerning customer bagged the bird for a mere 10p on Boxing Day – even snapping up two. That’s two whole turkeys for just 20p.
With a use-by date of Boxing Day itself, this was prime for anyone extending the celebrations or savvy enough to stash away in the freezer.
Others could only look on in envy, dreaming of landing such a fantastic deal themselves. One lady chortled: “That’s what I call a bargain; I hope they are delicious.” A man wrote: “My kind of person, you can’t beat a yellow sticker. Enjoy it, good find”.
One critic shared their perspective on festive feasting, saying: “Even if I could afford that at full price, I wouldn’t buy it. We had Aldi roast Turkey breast, and it was nice. Unless you’re gonna do the whole showpiece dinner, I can’t see the point of buying a whole bird.”
Another thrifty tipster suggested that celebrating Christmas on December 26 might be the way to go, given the slashed prices post-holiday, adding that if you could find a deal like this, it’d make sense financially.
Debate ensued among savvy shoppers regarding the drastic markdowns, with opinions split. While some felt lucky about the bargain, a few voiced sadness over the fact that the “poor turkey’s life [had] been reduced to 10p”.
Gossip swirled about whether the dramatic discount was an error, with one person theorising that the “code checker will probably get a talking to” if they’ve done such a big discount by mistake.
Amidst the discussion, the question was raised: “Why do supermarkets not donate to homeless shelters?” However, someone countered within the thread, revealing: “We’ve often waited and watched the reduced produce for hours ready to pounce, and it gets taken away to the soup kitchens. Not fair on those of us struggling to buy reduced food for our families.”
