Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been held in jail since September – but could be held there until May 2025 when his trial is due to begin – after being arrested on a number of charges
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was encouraged by his family and appeared to say a prayer as he attempted to be granted bail for a third time.
The musician has been behind bars since September after he was arrested in New York and charged with a number of crimes including sex trafficking and racketeering. The musician has plead not guilty to all the charges made against him and has vehmently denied doing any wrongdoing.
He is being held in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn – where he recently spent his 55th birthday. And he is expected to remain behind bars in the institution until his trial begins. His trial has been scheduled for May next year – meaning the star could be in jail for eight months before he is able to begin to try to clear his name in court.
On Friday, the star made a third attempt to secure bail – which he was hoping to land by requesting a $50 million (£40 million) agreement. He before a federal judge in New York and was greeted in the court room by members of his family – including his mother Janice, 83, who was wearing sunglasses, adopted son Quincy, 33, Justin, 30, King, Chance, 18 and his twin daughters D’Lila and Jessie, 17.
According to the Daily Mail, the I’ll Be Missing You singer blew kisses to his family and also placed his hands together to form a prayer sign before the hearing began. It is also reported he tapped his heart – and entered the court from a side door and was wearing prison-issued clothing.
It has been reported he was not brought to the court in shackles, with his lawyer suggesting this was a sign of “dignity” for him. The Daily Mail quotes the rapper’s defense attorney Anthony Ricco highlighting to the Judge Arun Subramanian: “I would like to point out that the family of Mr. Combs is present. They traveled a great distance to be here. That would be his mom, his children and other relatives.”
The judge told the star’s family it was “important for you to be here.” Meanwhile, Prosecutor Christy Slavik is quoted branding Combs as: “A violent abuser and he’s a danger to the community”. She argued he should be remanded in custody until his 2025 trial is due to begin. A decision on his latest trial bid is not due to be reached until next week.
Since his arrest, Combs has been hit with a flood of other allegations – ranging from accusations of sexual assault, drugging, and more. A lawyer for the star has hit back at the accusations, telling The Mirror previously: “As Mr. Combs’ legal team has emphasized, he cannot address every meritless allegation in what has become a reckless media circus. That said, Mr. Combs emphatically and categorically denies as false and defamatory any claim that he sexually abused anyone, including minors. He looks forward to proving his innocence and vindicating himself in court, where the truth will be established based on evidence, not speculation.”
