Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is said to have had a meltdown over the Christmas period as he struggled to believe he was spending the holidays in prison – but sources have disputed this
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ reality of having Christmas behind bars allegedly sent him into meltdown.
The disgraced music mogul is currently behind bars at the ruthless Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he is awaiting trial after being charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, transportation and engaging in prostitution. The rapper, 55, is expected to be locked up until his trial kicks off on May 5, 2025. Outside of the criminal charges he is facing, Combs has been sued by several people who have brought civil actions claiming he subjected them to physical or sexual abuse, including his former girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie. Combs has strongly denied all allegations.
But when reality set in that he wouldn’t be out of prison for Christmas, despite his continuous pleas for bail, Diddy is said to have had a meltdown and begged guards to take him to the prison hospital for observation – which was denied. Sources claim that Diddy believed he would be out on bail due to his “high powered legal team”. However, sources close to Diddy have told the Mirror that claims of a “meltdown” are “false”.
“Spending the holidays behind bars was a nightmare for him,” a source said. They went on to add that after his “meltdown”, he “eventually managed to calm himself down with the meditation technique he’s been using while he’s been behind bars. It took him a few hours of deep breathing and focusing to get out of the bad space he was in, but he finally managed it.”
The MailOnline reports that he often refuses meals while in prison as he awaits his trial next year. However, a source close to Diddy told the Mirror that Diddy didn’t suffer a meltdown at all. They exclusively told us: “He continues to stay strong and focused on his defence. Although he missed his family on Christmas Day, a holiday he traditionally spends with his children.”
Diddy’s alleged meltdown comes just days after he appeared “thinner and greyer” during a hearing at a New York court house. On Wednesday, December 18, he appeared before federal Judge Arun Subramanian for several issues. However, assistant U.S Attorney, Emily Johnson, told the court that she was unable to disclose some of the information due to the ongoing investigation surrounding Diddy.
Johnson told the court that the government had no plans to change the trial date, which is set for May 5, 2025. She added: “Any additional charges will have little discovery information.” Meanwhile, prosecutors claim that there could be more indictments against Diddy coming in the next few months.
While no cameras were permitted into the court house, one reporter noted that Diddy’s appearance had dramatically changed since he was detained behind bars. Law & Crime Network reporter Elizabeth Millner told viewers: “He appeared just astonishingly thinner, which you can expect [from him being] inside a federal detention center for a couple of months now.
“A lot different from the luxury lifestyle that he was living before, but [he] appeared very noticeably thinner and maybe being locked up in detention is starting to weigh on him.” She added that the musician who has been detained since being charged appeared to be “greyer” than usual.
In a statement via his legal team, they said Diddy cannot address every meritless allegation in what has become a reckless media circus. His team said: “Mr Combs emphatically and categorically denies as false and defamatory any claim that he sexually abused anyone, including minors. He looks forward to proving his innocence and vindicating himself in court, where the truth will be established based on evidence, not speculation.”
Diddy was demanding a trial as early as spring. In a filing to the US Department of Justice, Diddy’s legal team requested investigators turn over evidence they have against him so they are able to ‘review the material in advance of a spring trial date’. The document, which was seen by The Mirror, also stated that Diddy ‘continues to assert his right to a speedy trial’ and said he had requested an April or May 2025 trial date.
The filing requested access to the materials that had been seized from Diddy following the raids on his Miami and Los Angeles homes in March. The government stated in the document that they have several terabytes of electronic material, including phones, laptops, tablets, hard drives, and cloud accounts from Diddy and third parties. They’re also looking at ‘physical evidence seized in searches of the defendant’s residence’.
He is said to have given up his fight to be released on bail, having had all attempts denied by Subramanian who stated he posed a danger to the “safety of the community.” Following his three failed appeals, Combs voluntarily withdrew his fourth, with a new motion keeping him in jail until May 5, 2025.
The Mirror has approached Diddy’s representatives for comment.
