Everton boss Sean Dyche has been under increased pressure this week ahead of the Toffees’ FA Cup clash with League One side Peterborough at Goodison Park on Thursday
Under-fire Everton manager Sean Dyche admits that he’s been given no reassurances over his future amid claims that he could be sacked.
Dyche, 53, is having his position assessed by the club’s new owners, the Friedkin Group, who are claimed to have contacted potential replacements such as former Chelsea and Brighton boss Graham Potter. Nineteen days ago, Dan Friedkin and Co. purchased Farhad Moshiri’s 98.8 per cent stake in a deal believed to be worth over £400million.
The Toffees are on a miserable run of just one win in 11 Premier League games. Thursday’s FA Cup tie at home to League One side Peterborough gives Everton an opportunity to ease the pressure on Dyche, who’s been in charge since January 2023.
Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that after the Friedkin Group planned to begin their tenure with stability, results have forced them to U-turn and hold a review of the current setup. It was claimed that talks are underway between the new leadership group to discuss Dyche’s future as manager.
Dyche said when asked about his future ahead of Thursday’s third-round tie: “To be clear, it should be at the end of the day, if you are a business of this size then succession planning should be part of your diligence. We need to win more games… I know the industry I am in.”
The ex-Burnley boss added that he’s previously sat down with the club’s owners and has a clear understanding of the situation, knowing that results must improve. Dyche added that he’s unsure whether his bosses have spoken to any candidates who might replace him, with Potter also tipped for the West Ham job.
After insisting that he’s handled setbacks during his reign ‘pretty bloody well’, Dyche added: “I have worn this badge with as much pride as I can and I will continue to do so.”

Dyche could be without eight first-team players for the cup tie, as he revealed: “Youssef [Chermiti] is going to be out a while, longer than we hoped. It’s not going to be days or weeks. Armando [Broja] has got a chance, it has settled down a bit today. He has been on the grass with the physios and will have to see how that reacts.
‘It’s not been ideal. Dwight [McNeil] won’t make it this week. It seems to be taking a while. Dom [Dominic Calvert-Lewin] has reported in with an ankle problem today so we’re going to have to deal with that as well.”
James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam both remained sidelined while club captain Seamus Coleman is also a doubt. Dyche added: “Jimmy might get a chance to join in with the main group next week. Tim is about a week behind that. There are positives signs but we have got to blend that into training and a bit will be needed on the football side, not just the sports-science side.”
