Seaside town with one of the ‘UK’s best high streets’ that’s stayed the same for 100 years

By staff11 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

This stunning UK seaside town has a rich history and is a hub for artists and galleries, as well as boasting a picturesque harbour and stunning beaches

Tucked away in stunning Cornwall, St Ives stands out as a breathtaking UK coastal gem throughout the year, even when summer visitors descend.

It boasts one of Britain’s finest high streets according to The Telegraph, featuring cobblestone lanes and charming independent shops.

“Fore Street in St Ives, with its slate-hung shops and independent galleries, has changed little over the last century, offering a perfect mix of local and artistic charm” the publication wrote.

Wander along this magical street during the quieter winter months and discover what St Ives offers without the crowds. St Ives becomes a hive of activity in summer but keeps its charm during the quieter seasons.

The Atlantic Ocean vistas from its heather-covered clifftops are truly spectacular, whilst golden beaches meet sparkling turquoise waters beneath.

Recently named amongst the UK’s finest seaside destinations, St Ives captivates with its winding cobbled streets and lively harbour area.

The idyllic sight of colourful boats bobbing on shimmering water looks like something from a fairytale. Pop down in winter for a tranquil seaside stroll, although you’ll need to wrap up against the cold.

If you arrive on a blustery day, experience the exciting St Ives ritual of storm watching alongside the locals. From the cosy confines of one of the town’s many coastal pubs and cafes, you can stay toasty and warm indoors while watching the waves lash the coastline.

If you’re planning a winter jaunt to this seaside town and the weather isn’t playing ball, there are plenty of indoor activities on offer in the town too.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘I took my six-year-old on a holiday that turned into the best trip of her life’

Beautiful British islands look just like the Caribbean but are very close to home

You could pop into the St Ives branch of the Tate Gallery, which has been a mainstay in the town since 1993. The eye-catching building overlooks Porthmeor Beach and displays contemporary art across its three floors.

For an extra splash of art, you could wander around Barbara Hepworth’s Studio, home to the works of the famous local artist, nestled within a beautiful sculpture garden. After immersing yourself in all that culture, you might be in the mood for a pint.

Make your way to The Sloop Inn on the harbourside for a drink with a stunning view of the gorgeous St Ives coastline.
