Javea has been described as a ‘secret paradise’ and it lies just 45 minutes away from Benidorm – with sun almost all year round, it would make for the perfect autumn getaway

There is a town close to Benidorm that has been described as a “secret paradise”, boasting a stunning beach and gorgeous restaurants.

Javea, or Xabia in Valencian, is a 45-minute drive up the Costa Blanca from Benidorm, or just under two hours away on public transport. Local YouTuber ‘Benidorm by Ana’ recently visited and gave viewers a tour for a video on her channel.

Ana said Javea’s Old Town retains a “historic charm” with “narrow streets, squares and distinctive stone buildings”. But her video focused mostly on the town’s beach, which she said left her seriously “surprised and impressed”.

Ana explained how Javea is unique in the region in that more than half of the town’s population are foreigners. Brits make up about 26% of the foreign population, she said.

“It’s easy to see why so many people choose Javea to live here all year long,” Ana said. “[There is an] incredible variety of different bars, cafeterias and restaurants, from cheaper options to authentic fancy restaurants with gorgeous views of the sea or in the middle of the forest.”

And importantly, the weather there is perfect. Ana said Javea sees more than 320 days of sunshine on average every year – meaning it could be ideal for an autumn getaway while the weather turns grim in the UK.

Ana also used a drone to capture footage of the “breathtaking” coastline and “crystal clear waters” in Javea. She said the coast is littered with hidden coves to explore, while the main beach provides the perfect place to have a day of relaxation. There are also shops, restaurants and bars just metres from the sand.

“There are weekly markets here in Javea,” Ana continued. “There’s cultural fairs which attract both residents and tourists, obviously. It’s a place where I would say tradition blends seamlessly with a modern touch.”

Commenting on the video, one person said: “Memories when my wife and I travelled in January 2020 from Canada and spent 35 days in Javea […] Great place to visit.” Another wrote: “We going to Javea for Christmas for the first time [and] can’t wait. We love Javea, we’ve been visiting for the last 11 years.”
