Senne Lammens’ Man Utd debut ‘doesn’t matter’ as new keeper hit with Liverpool reality check

By staff19 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens impressed on his debut against Sunderland but head coach Ruben Amorim has sent his new shotstopper a warning ahead of Liverpool

Ruben Amorim has lavished Senne Lammens in praise but warned him of the new difficulties he now faces as Manchester United goalkeeper. The Portuguese coach told his summer signing that he has no time to dwell on an impressive debut.

Lammens put in a confident display as United claimed victory over Sunderland ahead of the international break and drew widespread praise for his performance. The Belgian shotstopper came away with a clean sheet as he replaced Altay Bayindir in goal.

The 23-year-old, who signed in an £18.2million deal on transfer deadline day, is now in line to start against Liverpool. Amorim believes Lammens’ task is only going to grow more difficult as he is exposed to more Premier League action.

The United boss has emphasised the importance of Lammens continuing to strive for the very best after the early positives he has produced. There will only be increased scrutiny as the goalkeeper makes his name, with opposition sides becoming more familiar with his weaknesses.

“The first impression is really important in our club,” Amorim said. “He had a very good impression.

“Then he needs to understand in our club the last game doesn’t matter, he needs to focus on the next game. Then he needs to understand the game, what kind of players he’s going to face.

He needs to understand people watched him during the game, they know how he wants the ball and kicks the ball. All of the small details he needs to improve every day.

“I think he shows he’s really composed. It’s a different environment [against Liverpool] but I’m not concerned about that.”

United face a Liverpool side that has lost three games in a row. Defeats against Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and Crystal Palace have slowed the Reds’ momentum under Arne Slot.

Amorim is not expecting anything less than the best from United’s rivals at Anfield on Sunday however. The 40-year-old has a great deal of respect for his adversary.

“Liverpool is the champion at the moment,” said Amorim. “They have a lot of talent, a very good coach.

“You can sense playing Man Utd against Liverpool, the fans are going to be crazy. I’m preparing the game against the best Liverpool.”
