Sheffield crash: Boy, 16, dies in ‘hit-and-run smash’ involving Audi and electric bike

By staff5 June 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

South Yorkshire Police are investigating the crash, which happened on Staniforth Road in the Darnall area of Sheffield on Wednesday at around 4.50pm, and has also left another teen injured

A teenager has died after being struck by an Audi whose driver allegedly failed to stop at the scene.

The 16-year-old boy was rushed to hospital but died of injuries sustained in the crash on Staniforth Road in Darnall, Sheffield. An 18-year-old man, who was riding an electric bike, remains in hospital with serious injuries.

South Yorkshire Police, investigating the smash, say the grey Audi failed to stop at the scene. A man and woman in their forties have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remain in custody, the force says.

The crash happened at around 4.50pm on Wednesday on Staniforth Road, which connects the Darnall area with the Attercliffe neighbourhood in the east of Sheffield. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “We know that this incident will have caused significant concern in the local community, and tonight our thoughts are with the boy’s loved ones following this tragic incident.”

The officer added: “Our investigation into what happened is continuing at pace and we currently have a scene in place on Staniforth Road as we continue to piece together the circumstances.

“We are aware of speculation being shared online, as well as footage of the incident, and we ask members of the public to withhold from speculating or sharing footage which may cause distress to the boy’s family.

“If you have any footage, imagery or information that may assist our investigation, then please share this with us – it may form an important part of our investigation.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact 101 or report it to the police online, quoting incident number 630 of June 4 2025. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.

Locals described police in both marked and unmarked cars and officers “running round and conducting searches.” They also said an air ambulance landed yesterday.

It comes after a child was killed in a car crash in Dartford, Kent, on Sunday, which involved two grey Ford Rangers. Medics later confirmed they were unable to save four-year-old Peter Maughan, affectionately known as Peter Rabbit. Grieving friends and family members remembered the “golden” boy, with one shocked friend writing on social media: “Rest in peace Peter Rabbit please everyone keep them in your prayers it’s a cruel world.”

Another said the news was “the saddest thing I’ve heard”, while a third chimed in and called on people to keep the boy’s mother and father in their thoughts and prayers. They said: “Keep her and her husband in prayer and her beautiful little baby boy may you watch over her and him I can’t imagine what she’s going through.”
