An out of control tipper lorry travelling at speed was filmed as it shot through traffic lights at a junction in Malaysia and smashed into another truck and several cars
Terrifying footage shows a runaway tipper lorry as it ploughed into a rubbish truck and cars having hurtled through traffic lights.
The crash happened in Klang, a city in the state of Selangor in Malaysia on Tuesday morning, 21st October, when the lorry lost control while descending a hill, according to police. Dashcam video shows the traffic light turning green as a garbage truck and several cars begin to move forward.
Moments later, the tipper lorry is seen coming from the left at high speed before smashing into the vehicles. The impact tears off the front cabin section of the garbage truck and scatters mud and debris across the road.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said they were notified of the accident at 9:07am and arrived nine minutes later. Assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the collision involved a tipper lorry, a garbage truck and two Perodua Myvi cars.
Initial checks found three injured men, all foreign nationals, and a 34-year-old woman. He said all four had been pulled from their vehicles before firefighters arrived and were handed over to paramedics.
Police later confirmed that six people in total were injured, including the 35-year-old local driver of the tipper lorry. Klang Utara deputy police chief Acting Superintendent Mohd Rahimi Zainol said one of the victims suffered a broken leg. Police took the lorry driver in for questioning and opened an investigation into the accident.
Meanwhile earlier this year a lorry veered across the a motorway central reservation, heading into oncoming traffic and narrowly avoiding a crash. Peter Stone, 55, was driving his Porsche 911 home from a family outing to St Agnes when he saw a lorry hurtling towards him between junctions 28 and 29 – between Cullompton and Exeter, in Devon – at 12.23pm on Friday, August 1.
The father of two, who was in the right-hand lane heading north, had mere seconds to react to avoid what could have been a deadly collision. He managed to swerve into the middle lane just in time as the lorry driver sped the wrong way down the busy motorway.
Peter, from Reading, said: “It literally came out of nowhere. I think I had less than two seconds to move before getting flattened by the tipper driver. It was quite difficult, my car is quite low down and the black car (in front) sort of obscured my view. I only really saw the truck – luckily it was yellow, so your peripheral vision can pick up bright colours and stuff.
“The black car moved out in front of me, I had a white motorhome beside me and I managed to go in between them. It was just a reflex reaction really. I’m very surprised no-one actually smashed into the truck.
“I did speak to the transport company because I wanted to make sure no-one was injured before offering to share the footage. I pulled over straight away and called 999, assuming there was going to be some serious injuries. Fortunately, as far as I’m aware, no one was injured – which is quite remarkable.”
