WARNING: CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES In horror CCTV video footage filmed in Brazil, the youngtser is hit by the rear wheel of his bike with such force the hub’s central bolt burrows into his skull
This is the terrifying moment a nine-year-old boy’s skull is speared by his bicycle wheel after he tripped over whilst riding.
In horror CCTV video footage filmed in Conceicao das Alagoas, Brazil, the youngtser is seen riding his bicycle when he suddenly trips over it and falls off, before the bike somersaults mid air and lands on top of him. The boy, who is lying face-down on the tarmac, is hit by the rear wheel with such force that it buries the hub’s central bolt in his skull.
Alarming X-ray images before his surgery on December 12 shows the bolt inside his skull, just fractions of an inch from his brain. Firefighters who arrived on scene used bolt cutters and angle grinders to cut away the wheel before surgeons took over to remove the bolt.
Hospital de Clinicas of the Federal University of Triangulo Mineiro officials said the bolt had penetrated 1cm, or nearly an inch, into his skull. A spokesperson said: “The firefighters’ job was to cut the forks and remove the bike to allow the child to get into the CT scanner.”
According to the hospital, the boy, who has not been named, is now recovering but remains in hospital to receive antibiotics.
Doctors also said the boy thankfully would not suffer any neurological consequences from the accident.
It comes after doctors were forced to pull a motorbike handle out of a teenager’s eye socket in April following a horror crash in Malaysia. Miraculously, the 19-year-old boy escaped the crash with no major injuries and no lasting damage to his sight. The motorbike lever luckily missed the boy’s eyeball by millimeters, doctors in Malaysia revealed as they shared gory details of the crash.
Firefighters reportedly had to cut the brake handle from the bike at the scene of the crash so paramedics could get to the boy. He was rushed to Universiti Malaya Eye Research Centre in Kuala Lumpur with a very swollen eye and the bike handle still protruding from his right eye socket.
The 17cm handle went in only slightly to the left of his eyeball. After examining him, medics found the teen’s retina, which is the layer of tissue at the back of the eye that helps us see, was cloudy and damaged.
