Shona McGarty is part of this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, but is heading into the jungle with a nasty injury after suffering an accident during training
Shona McGarty is heading into the jungle with a nasty injury, after her pre-I’m A Celeb training led to a brutal accident. The former EastEnders star is set to join the series when it starts airing on 16 November.
Shona took to Instagram to share her pre-show training, starting with a video in which she turned her local park into a make-shift training ground.
While a voice over explaining that “before entering the jungle, survival is based on preparation” played, Shona could be seen going down a slide and then crashing into a park bench, causing the actress to grunt loudly.

She looked wary and in pain as she filmed the rest of the video, which included trying to jump through tire swings and use a zip line. In a later post to her Instagram Stories, Shona shared a picture of a nasty bruise on her waist.
Over the top of the picture, Shona wrote: “And yes, the rumours are true. Sliding into a park bench does leave bruises. Prep for @imacelebrity they said. It’ll be fun they said.”
Later, the actress continued her pre-jungle training by attempting to take a shower using the outside hose pipe. She screamed as she ran the water over her hair.
Shona is best known for playing Whitney Dean on EastEnders. She started on the show in 2008, introduced as the adopted daughter of Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer). Shona ultimately decided to leave the show in 2023, after 15 years with the soap opera.
In an interview with The Sun, she said: “I have decided to spread my wings and will be leaving EastEnders. I have loved my years in the show. I have been trusted with some incredible storylines and have made amazing friendships – and family – which will endure.”
The actress has remained largely out of the spotlight since leaving the show, but has now signed up for I’m A Celebrity. Ahead of the show’s start, she was rumoured to have split from her fiance David Bracken.
She shared a cryptic post to Instagram just before flying out to Australia, where she wrote: “I’m finally learning to just be me, no filters, no apologies, no shrinking to make others comfortable. It’s a new beginning, and this time I’m stepping into life with open arms and an open heart. I’ve spent too long second-guessing, dimming my light, trying to fit into spaces that were never meant for me.
“But now, it’s about freedom, being comfortable in my own skin, owning my story, singing LOUD, with all my flaws, and my fire. This is the start of really living, fully and authentically. From here on out, …I’m .. ‘unapologetically me’.”
