Shoppers snapping up ‘brilliant’ garden strimmer that’s almost 40% cheaper

This WORX strimmer is much cheaper thanks to a discount on Amazon and shoppers love it for small gardens

As summer starts to wrap up, many Brits might be on the lookout to spruce up the garden before the colder months, including strimming any tall grass. Amazon has cut the price of the WORX WG163E garden strimmer by almost 40 per cent.

It’s suitable for small to medium-sized gardens, as many shoppers claim the batteries last around 20 minutes. However, those with large gardens may want to avoid it.

There are also plenty of other alternatives to grab before the summer is over for shoppers to spruce up their gardens. For gardeners needing a device to tidy their hedges, the Bosch 55cm Cordless Hedge Trimmer (£148) can slice through branch widths of up to 20mm, but might not be appropriate for grass cutting.

Another option is the Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Cordless Whisper Grass Trimmer (£149.99). Though the battery and charger aren’t supplied with this device – they must be purchased separately.

When it comes to reviews, shoppers have praised the WORX strimmer for being “brilliant” and easy to use while also doing a great job at trimming grass and edges. One reviewer said: “I have an industrial petrol strimmer, which can be overkill for borders and small patches of weeds, so I saw this cordless strimmer and, as the price was good, thought I’d give it a go.

“I am totally amazed at what it can tackle, considering its size and weight. The 20v motor has enough torque to deal with almost all grass types and even thinner nettles and weeds.

“It’s very light and easy to use. The handle is adjustable for length and works for my over six-foot height. It comes with two batteries, which seem to last about 20 to 30 minutes each. It might be less in cold weather. It stores easily due to the folding grip and collapsible handle. I am totally happy with this product and would highly recommend it.”

Another shopper added: “I love this item. Powerful, light easy to use. Comes with two batteries, so never run out of power. I have a medium/large-sized garden and this takes the cables of extension leads out of strimming work, which is brilliant.”

However, some shoppers did have an issue with the battery life. One shopper added: “The battery life is barely adequate and the supplied charger is very slow. For a 15-20 minute running time, the recharge time is 5 hours per battery (not mentioned in the advertising that I could see), so the two supplied batteries don’t really do a large garden. The fast charger is really expensive. It’s probably ok for a small garden.”

Views on the batteries appear to vary as another buyer said: “Light yet robust. Does the business. Use a stiff handbrush after strimming or edging. Still getting used to its line feed mechanism.

“Recharges quickly. Easy to use. Relatively quiet. Nice and simple power switch combination. Folds down easily. Easy to store. As the title says, “It just worx.”
