Sia, who has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards, was spotted out and about in New York City, where the mother of three was asked a very important piece of life advice
Pop megastar Sia nearly went unnoticed as she strolled through New York City.
The 49-year-old singer was out with her family but, donning a black longline raincoat with a black cap and her hair in blonde braids, blended in with tourists in the Big Apple. Eventually, a fan did recognise Sia, famed for her songs Cheap Thrills and The Greatest, and asked her a question.
The fan, called David, has a following on social media because he posts videos of his encounters with celebrities. He regularly asks them for important pieces of life advice, and Sia dids not escape the quizzing.
When asked what makes her confident, the songstress said: “Mirror work, looking in the mirror and then saying to myself all the opposite things that I think are negative about myself. You have to look into your own eyes in the mirror and it rewires your brain.
“You’re having a hard time, you’ve got to write all the bad things your brain tells you about yourself and then write the opposite of what your brain tells you about yourself and say that into the mirror everyday for a little while. It takes about six months.”

David then squeezed in a second question, asking what advice she’d give her older self. She simply shared a three-word sentence, saying: “Live more now.”
The fan captioned the video: “Sia spotted on the streets of SoHo NYC and asked ‘What makes you confident?’…Sia’s response was – ‘Look in the mirror every morning and tell yourself all the positive things about yourself.'”
Sia has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year in 2015 for Chandelier and Best Pop Vocal Album in 2017 for This Is Acting. The latter only peaked at third in the album charts in the UK, but was widely praised by critics for its lyrics and verve.
But throughout her career, Sia has always maintained huge modesty and valued her privacy. As a result, the mum of three, born in Adelaide, Australia, often hides her face with elaborate costumes and huge wigs during her performances and videos.
When she appeared on The Late Late Show in the US with James Corden, Sia said: “I don’t wear this if there aren’t cameras around. I only wear this to maintain a modicum of privacy.
“I was a singer for like 10 or 11 years to mediocre success, and I was an alcoholic and a drug addict. I sobered up and decided I didn’t want to be an artist anymore, because I was starting to become a little bit famous, and it was destabilising in some way.”
