Simple hack saves you money at the petrol pump by adding one item to car

Drivers have been urged to pour a common solution into their petrol or diesel cars in order to save money at the pumps. The solution is likely to be in a garage

Motorists could significantly improve their fuel economy by adding a common item to their vehicles. Crystal Voogd from ‘5 Star Loans’ advocates using “energy conserving” engine oil. This type of oil has “friction-reducing additives” that can enhance efficiency, which may result in cost savings at the petrol stations amid high fuel prices.

Crystal emphasised: “Opt for motor oils labelled as ‘energy conserving’. These oils contain friction-reducing additives that improve fuel economy.” Engine oil is essential for reducing friction within an engine, vital for preventing damage and ensuring the longevity of vehicle components.

Oil giants Mobil have also highlighted the importance of using lower viscosity oils to reduce engine friction as a way to help improve fuel economy, stating: “The use of lower viscosity oils can help support efficiency and improve fuel economy by decreasing engine friction.”

The RAC recently noted that despite a drop in fuel costs – with unleaded petrol falling by 2.4p per litre – drivers continue to pay over the odds at pumps.

The current average price of 147.88p per litre marks a decrease from 150.31p, potentially saving motorists about £1.30 for every tank filled, reports the Express.

However, with supermarket prices only down by a mere 1.2p, it’s clear that motorists should be benefiting from greater discounts than they’re currently receiving.

The RAC Fuel Watch comparison site has emphasised that petrol and diesel prices ‘should fall”. In the past, the RAC has acknowledged the significant role that high-quality motor oil can play in helping drivers reduce their fuel consumption.

They explained: “Motor oil can also improve fuel economy, cool the engine, and reduce emissions. Depending on the type of oil your vehicle requires, you should consider its additives.

“Additives are chemicals that are added to the oil to improve its performance. Common additives include detergents, dispersants, and anti-wear agents.

“These additives can help keep your engine clean and running smoothly.”
