Rod Stewart has posed for a sweet family photo alongside his wife Penny Lancaster and their six children, wearing Celtic football shirts ahead of the rocker’s 80th birthday on Friday
Ahead of his 80th birthday on Friday, Sir Rod Stewart has shared a heartwarming family photo on Instagram, all donning Celtic football shirts.
The snap, posted on Sunday night, shows the family casually posing on some steps. The caption read ‘Early birthday celebrations’, and he also gave a shout out to his beloved Celtic Football Club. The Maggie May singer was seen in a green and white horizontal-striped replica Celtic football shirt, accessorising with a crossbody bag and red rectangular glasses tucked into his collar.
His wife Penny Lancaster, 53, also sported a Celtic top, paired with tight white shorts and a white cap adorned with a black X. Joining them was the singer’s son Sean, 44, who wore a white vest showcasing his tattoos, a green and blue tartan kilt and matching cap, and a green and white striped replica Celtic scarf.
He was seen arm-in-arm with new girlfriend Julia Stambler, who was also dressed in a black vest and matching tartan kilt and cap. The family photo also included Stewart’s two younger sons, Alastair Wallace, 19, and Aiden Patrick, 13, as well as Rod’s son Liam Stewart, 30, and his wife Nicole Artukovich.
The British rock legend, who tied the knot last year, celebrated his 80th birthday this week with his daughters Renee, 32, and Ruby, 37. Both were seen sporting football tops, with Ruby adding a touch of colour with yellow shorts. Also present in the family photo were Renee’s boyfriend Adam Sumner and Ruby’s fiancé Jake Kalic.
Stewart, who recently admitted that his ‘days are numbered’ but expressed ‘no fear’ of death, took to Instagram last week to share a nostalgic black and white photo of himself as a young boy at the seaside. The 79 year old captioned the post: “From the streets of North London to the world stage, it all started here.”
The charming photo showed the global hitmaker as a child, donning matching shorts and top with a sleeveless jumper. This comes after Glastonbury Festival announced that Stewart is set to perform on the Pyramid stage in the Sunday teatime ‘legends’ slot, making him one of the oldest artists to grace the stage.
The ‘Handbags and Gladrags’ singer began his final Las Vegas residency after 13 years in August but promised he would continue performing and partying into his 90s. He said: “I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear.”
“We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket. I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can. I say a few – probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.” He admitted: “I’m not like I was in the ’70s and ’80s and I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that.”
“Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show. But no, you think I just have water on my rider? You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it.”
