Sky has just pushed out a useful update to its devices and here’s how to try it.

If you have one of Sky’s latest gadgets in your home – such as Sky Glass or Sky Stream – there’s a smart new update to try today. The telly provider has just confirmed the release of a free upgrade which is now offering more fun ways to find things to watch. All you need to know is the theme tune of favourites such as Friends or Only Fools and Horses and you’ll get instant access to episodes of these popular shows.

To make this feature work, you simply grab your Sky remote – or shout “Hey Sky” if you have an internet-connected Glass TV – and then say some of the words from popular themes.

Fancy giving it a go? Sky has confirmed 10 things you can try right now.

To watch Friends say – “I’ll be there for you”

To watch Only Fools and Horses say – “God bless Hooky Street”

To watch Big Bang Theory say – “It all started with a big bang”

To watch The Muppet Show say – “It’s time to meet the Muppets”

To watch Thomas and Friends say – “They’re the really useful crew”

To watch Paw Patrol say – “We’ll be there on the double”

To watch Gavin & Stacey say – “I’ll wait by the window for you”

To watch Bluey say – “Mum, Dad, Bingo, Bluey”

To watch Gilmore Girls say- “Where you lead, I will follow”

You can also say “the theme tune that goes like” into your remote to watch a collection of shows with the nation’s favourite theme tunes. Including some modern instrumental classics like the iconic piano riff in Succession and the unforgettable ‘ohs’ in White Lotus.

The update has been released as new research conducted by Sky has revealed the top 10 most instantly recognisable theme tunes as voted for by Brits.

Cult classics such as Doctor Who (47%), The Simpsons (44%) and Match of the Day (44%) all took the highest rankings.

Here are the top 10 most instantly recognisable theme tunes as voted for by Brits:

• EastEnders – 59%

• Coronation Street – 56%

• Friends – 50%

• Doctor Who – 47%

• The Simpsons – 44%, Match of the Day – 44%

• Only Fools and Horses – 43%

• Scooby-Doo – 33%, Big Bang Theory – 33%

• Blackadder – 25%

“A catchy theme tune can really elevate a TV show. Whether it’s the claps from Friends or the dramatic opening bars from Game of Thrones, they set the tone for what’s to come,” said Catherine Lees, Managing Director, Sky TV.

“To celebrate the nation’s love of them, we’ve created voice search for theme tune lyrics on Sky TV, so you can have fun finding some of the best. So why not say ”I’ll wait by the window for you” into your remote to see what’s occurin’?”.

Along with those new theme requests, here are some more things you can do with your Sky remote’s voice search.

With Voice Control you can:

Search for a specific show, actor, movie or sporting event – just say “Game of Thrones” or “Tom Hanks”

Find a movie by using a famous quote from the film – just say “May the Force be with you”

Change channels – just say “Go to Sky One”

Play recordings and downloads – just say “Play Chernobyl”

Play, pause, rewind, or fast-forward – just say “Skip 20 minutes”

Launch apps – just say “Open Netflix

Change accessibility settings – just say “Turn on Subtitles”
