A European destination remains largely unknown to holidaymakers, despite being the country’s second-largest city with undeniable charm. Nestled alongside the Black Sea, Batumi in Georgia destination is gaining traction among travellers seeking something different.

The city boasts a striking backdrop of rolling hills and snow-capped peaks, creating an extraordinary setting. With both a historic Old Town and a coastal location, visitors can choose from diverse holiday experiences.

As Georgia’s premier summer getaway, it’s remarkable that this seaside gem hasn’t gained wider recognition. It comes after reports of a small fishing village with some of the UK’s best seafood but hardly any tourists.

The Batumi Botanical Gardens are a must-see attraction for any visitor, reports the Express. One Tripadvisor reviewer raved: “This was an excellent experience in such a beautiful and well-kept garden.

“The variety of vegetation from different parts of the world make the place very interesting. Plus the maintenance is to perfection. Batumi is full of lovely tourist attractions.”

Bulvari serves as the city’s principal beach, where the main strip features cafes, beach bars, and various attractions along the waterfront. The area also houses remarkable artwork by Georgian sculptor Tamara Kvesitadze.

Named Ali and Nino, the piece shows two figures moving through each other to become one. The sculpture represents love and offers a unique sight during any visit.

During July and August, the beach becomes a hive of activity with both locals and holidaymakers flocking to the shoreline, though it remains far more tranquil throughout the rest of the year. The pebble beach has earned a reputation for being spotless and exceptionally well-maintained.

Visitor Emily Lush remarked: “I’ve come to realise that Batumi is like several cities rolled into one; there are so many discrete pockets to discover, and only a couple of Batumi’s many faces have anything to do with sun, sand or surf.”
