Small, underrated theme park crowned UK’s best beating Thorpe Park and Alton Towers

At the UK Theme Park Awards, the Hampshire thrill venue Paultons Park, which is family-owned and operated, scooped ten awards. Paultons boasts more than 70 rides and attractions, including Peppa Pig World.

Paultons Park has seen off stiff competition from attractions including Thorpe Park and Alton Towers to be crowned Theme Park of the Year.

At the UK Theme Park Awards, the Hampshire thrill venue, which is family-owned and operated, scooped ten awards. Paultons boasts more than 70 rides and attractions, including Peppa Pig World.

Among its gongs were Best New Attraction for its UK-first indoor dark ride, Ghostly Manor, the Best Customer Service trophy, and the Best Sustainability Initiative title for its solar energy project. The attraction also won gold awards for Best Theme Park for Families and Best Theme Park for Toddlers.

Family-run theme park Paultons Park opened in 1983. The park now covers 140 acres and has more than 80 rides and attractions, including Jurassic-themed attraction Lost Kingdom and Midwest America-themed Tornado Springs.

Paultons Park was named by Tripadvisor as the eighth best-rated amusement park in the world and the fourth best in Europe in 2025.

Located in Ower on the edge of the New Forest, Paultons has been rated ‘excellent’ by over 7,500 paying guests to date. The attraction boasts a 4.5 out of 5 Tripadvisor score from over 10,000 reviews.

Lawrence Mancey, marketing and technology director, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded 10 awards this year at the annual UK Theme Park Awards, including the prestigious Theme Park of the Year Award. These accolades are a true reflection of the hard work, creativity and dedication shown by every team member at Paultons Park, many of whom have been part of our family for over twenty years.

“As a family-run park now in its third generation of operation, our focus has always been on delivering outstanding days out for families, and it’s fantastic to see that commitment recognised.”

The destination has also been recognised for having the lowest ride wait times of any family theme park, with data showing that queues are 50% shorter than other UK attractions.

Lawrence added: “We’re excited to build on this success next year with the opening of our first inverting rollercoaster, Drakon, at the heart of our brand-new immersive world, Valgard: Realm of the Vikings, launching in May 2026. It promises to be the most ambitious addition to Paultons Park yet, bringing a world-class experience and epic new adventure which will delight families of all ages, including older children and teens.”

Arguably its biggest draw is Peppa Pig World, which was praised by Boris Johnson in a speech during the final, dying days of his prime ministership.

It now boasts nine rides including Miss Rabbit’s Helicopter Flight, Peppa’s Big Balloon Ride, Grandpa Pig’s Little Train Ride, Grandpa Pig’s Boat Trip, Daddy Pig’s Car Ride, George’s Dinosaur Adventure, Windy Castle, The Queen’s Flying Coach Ride and Grampy Rabbit’s Sailing Club. Other attractions within Peppa Pig World include Peppa’s House, Mr Potato’s Playground and Muddy Puddles, a water splash park.

The winners of the UK Theme Park Awards were announced at a ceremony on 18 September 2025.
