Several people have claimed their rechargeable hot water bottles bought on TikTok have been left smoking and burning – as they warn people to not buy them online
TikTok users have warned others about one of the hot water bottles available on the app – as many claim theirs have been ‘smoking’ while using them.
Across TikTok shop, thousands of rechargeable hot water bottles have been sold on the platform, with mnay gaining impressive five-star reviews. But now several videos have been posted online that are smouldering while in use, with smoke gushing out and burnt fabric.
One shopper took to TikTok to share a video and claimed it “took under 30 seconds to burn,” and urged people “please don’t buy this product” as her hot water bottle rigorously pumped out smoke while in use.

Another woman took to the platform to share her experience as she said she loves a hot water bottle, but her rechargeable one took “30 to 40 seconds started to smoke a lot” after she plugged it in. She then cut it open and revealed the inside which had completely burnt out and was all black from the smoke. It looked as if it was a battery fault inside.
She then told people that although they are “all over TikTok do not buy one” as she said that’s what could happen and added: “My concern is that someone could plug it in and walk away and then their whole kitchen is on fire, or a child could use it and you don’t want that.”
The TikToker then said people are “selling them because they are getting paid to do it” and earning commission but stressed how dangerous it could have been.
People flocked to the comments in shock, as one person penned: “Imagine if you plugged it in and popped out the house, this is so worrying,” and a second said: “Thank god you’ve put this video up loads might’ve got them as gifts to give at Christmas without thinking and it could’ve been a disaster, hope lots and lots see this video.”
A third penned: “It’s the influences who will just promote them probably without trying them; so scary! So glad you noticed straight away,” while a fourth commented: “I’ve bought one for my daughter for Christmas it’s going straight in the bin. she’s got two young daughters omg i would never forgive myself if it happened to her thank you for sharing this.”
