Evil child killer Ian Huntley has been locked up in jail since 2002 after being given a minimum 40 year sentence but it seems he still hasn’t got used to the concept of punishment with his gripes over lack of pizza, booze and claiming he’s ‘picked on’
Child killer Ian Huntley has reportedly been complaining about how he is being treated in prison, again. The monster is behind bars for the double murders of schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in August 2002.
The 10-year-old best mates disappeared after they went to get some sweets from the local leisure centre vending machine. More than 400 officers were involved in the hunt to find them in the quiet town of Soham, Cambridgeshire.
At first officers thought the school caretaker was just a normal bloke and he even gave media interviews and joined in the desperate search for the little girls. Little did they know it was evil Huntley who had lured them into his home by telling them his girlfriend Maxine Carr, who was a teaching assistant at their school, was inside. He murdered the girls and then hid their bodies in an irrigated ditch close to the RAF base about 10 miles from their home.
A gamekeeper found their bodies, which left the nation reeling after following the search for them for 13 days, praying they would be found alive. On August 20 he was charged with two counts of murder and sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment, with a minimum of 40 years. He is now 51 and won’t be considered for release before 2042. Recently he’s said to have been “moaning that he was being picked on and treated unfairly” at HMP Frankland, Durham, where he is serving a life term.
Apparently, he has been wearing a No10 Manchester United-style shirt in reference to Holly and Jessica. The girls were wearing the shirts when he brutally killed them. He went back to where he dumped their bodies to remove their tops and tried to burn them in an attempt to destroy DNA evidence. He then ditched them in a bin at the school where he worked and where police eventually found them.
Guards reportedly raided his cell to retrieve his shirt and photos he had of Maxine. A source told The Sun: “They turned over Huntley’s cell and confiscated the shirt. He won’t be getting it back and has been warned about his vile behaviour. The raid was a proper one. They went through all his belongings.
“People had also complained about the Maxine Carr pictures being inappropriate. It was like he was revelling in what happened. Huntley was moaning that he was being picked on and treated unfairly.
“But neither the staff or other inmates had any sympathy and are pleased he can no longer taunt his victims and others by wearing the shirt. It is about time he was treated a bit more harshly in jail.”
Due to the abhorrent nature of his crimes against the innocent schoolgirls, the twisted slayer is always at risk of attack from other prisoners. He has also attempted suicide and has had health issues.
In 2005 while in HMP Wakefield, Huntley was scalded with boiling water by convicted spree killer Mark Hobson. Two years after being transferred to HMP Frankland in 2008, he received hospital treatment after his neck was slashed by convicted armed robber Damien Fowkes.
In April 2007, Huntley confessed to having sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl whom he had dragged into an orchard in 1997.
A former inmate at HMP Frankland told The Mirror in 2016 that he was leading an ominous double life in prison where he was either taunting others or appearing pathetic and defeated over not being eligible for parole until he’s 71.
According to the ex-inmate, Huntley loved watching TV and playing video games on consoles he bought with his wages. They said: “Huntley rarely gets involved in group activity and never goes to the yard. He stands around by the kitchens, moaning he wants more food. He’s only about 5ft2in but he’s over 15st.”
But in November 2019, Huntley was reportedly punished for swearing at and kicking a guard. He lost his privileges and was locked up in solitary confinement meaning he lost his £20-a-week painting job and was not allowed to buy fish and chip dinners.
A source then claimed he had lost weight, saying: He’s almost unrecognisable now from what the public would remember. He looks like a skinny old man with no fight left in him.”
The year before he was recorded talking from behind bars and apologised for his terrible crimes. However he also moaned about not being able to drink booze, get takeaways or have any freedom: “I miss cuddling up on my sofa with a girlfriend, watching a DVD on television with a can of beer, walking the dog, going to the shops, nipping out for a pizza if you fancy a pizza, being able to do what you want to do when you want to do it,” he said according to The Sun.
He also reportedly complained for two years that he wasn’t well, telling other inmates he thought he had a terminal illness. In 2023 he had cancer tests in a security operation costing thousands of pounds and was given the all-clear. He was said to be “really relieved and a bit sheepish” when he returned to jail after he got the results.
“He was talking about how karma could have got him – and so were other people who spoke to him. He was also complaining about how the prison didn’t seem too concerned about him.” a source told The Sun.
