Showbiz’ most talked-about new power couple are a great match, claims a source – who maintains the two A-listers are both looking for a relationship which is ‘non-committal’ right now
Actress Sophie Turner and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin could be perfect for each other, as neither is looking for a ‘serious ‘commitment right now, says a source.
“Sophie was a party girl before her relationship with Joe Jonas”, the source close to the X Man star, 29, told the Mirror. “And Chris could actually be the perfect guy for her right now, as both are at a point in their lives where they’re looking for something fun and non-committal.”
Both stars have moved on from recent high-profile splits, it would seem. Sophie is thought to have split from her aristocrat boyfriend, Peregrine ‘Perry’ Pearson – heir to the Cowdray estate in West Sussex – in September, while Coldplay frontman Chris, 48, called it a day with long-term girlfriend, actress Dakota Johnson, 35, back in June after eight years.

Sophie was previously married to singer Jonas until their messy divorce, following a bitter custody battle, in 2023, relocating with the former couple’s two daughters, Willa and Delphine, to England after growing disillusioned with life in the States.
Martin has also been spending noticeably more time in his home country lately, including much of the last summer in London, for a host of dates at Wembley Stadium as part of Coldplay’s ongoing Music Of The Spheres tour..
“Sophie was totally fed up with America and all the bull*** there after her divorce. She really had a downer on LA and politics there”, our source claims. “Now Chris, too, no longer has any full-time ties to keep him constantly in LA.”
It was first revealed that Sophie and Chris – also a father-of-two, sharing Apple Martin, 21, and Moses, 19, from his marriage to actress Gwyneth Paltrow, were dating last week, the new couple thought to have gone on a ‘secret date’ just a week after mother-of-two Sophie became single.
According to PR expert Lynn Carratt, there are plenty of reasons why the new power couple could last the course, given their ‘shared life experiences’.
“They already have a common ground. They’re both creative, they’re co-parenting with ex partners and they’ve both previously been part of a high-profile Hollywood couple”, she told the Mirror.
“They have a similar level of fame, so they understand each other on that level. I also suspect that both Sophie and Chris will want this relationship to be low drama and that they will quietly get on with it and see where it takes them, much as Chris did with Dakota. He’s never really been one for the spotlight, where possible.”
Amid the intense interest in the new couple, a video from 2020 has made a resurgence, which reveals Sophie Turner as a Coldplay superfan, ‘crying’ over a birthday message from Chris Martin, organised as a surprise by her now ex-husband as part of his show, Cup of Joe.
Meanwhile, Martin’s successful tour with Coldplay continues, while Turner’s career continues on an equally successful trajectory, including a lead role as Lara Croft in a new Tomb Raider film, due out next year.
Rumours of Sophie’s split from her last partner, Peregrine, 30, emerged after it was revealed at the end of August that she had joined celebrity dating app, Raya. But it’s believed they called it quits for good at a high-society wedding in late September.
