Spain’s cheapest beach city has £3 beers, a huge fortress and beautiful golden beaches

By staff4 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Costa de Almeria is full of stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and striking features scattered across its diverse landscape. It also offers some great bargains in its capital city

A stretch of Spain drenched in natural beauty has been named the best-value coastal spot the country has to offer.

Almeria has come in at number three in an easyJet rundown of the best bargain beach destinations in Europe. Not only can holidaymakers enjoy £3 beers in Almeria, but return flights from the UK and a night in a three-star family hotel will set you back £60 a piece.

Good value is not the only reason to visit the beautiful city. Its location in the south-eastern province of Costa de Almeria means hot weather is all but guaranteed from May to September. At the same time, a cooling sea breeze blows away the most ferocious parts of the summer heat.

Costa de Almeria is full of stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and striking features scattered across its diverse landscape. Few places in Europe offer the opportunity to see mountains, valleys, desert-like areas, and the seaside all in one day.

The region has miles of pristine beaches, featuring secluded coves and wide sandy stretches. Playa de los Muertos, Playa de los Genoveses, and Playa de Mónsul are just a few examples of the beaches in the area. Many offer not only sun and sand but also excellent conditions for water sports such as snorkeling, diving, and windsurfing.

The region is home to several charming towns and villages, each with its own unique character. Almeria, the capital city, is a vibrant and historic city with a rich cultural heritage. It boasts an Alcazaba fortress, a towering cathedral, and a lively old town.

Other places well worth visiting are Roquetas de Mar, Mojacar, and Vera, which offer a mix of traditional Spanish charm and modern restaurants and bars.

If you’re going to visit one attraction while you’re there, the Alcazaba of Almería is a good choice. It can be seen from any part of the city and it is the biggest of the citadels built by the Arabs in Spain. Its construction was begun in 955 by Abderramán III and finished by Hayrán, “taifa” king of Almeria, in the eleventh century.

Nessebar, which occupies a small peninsula in Bulgaria, was named the best-value beach in the new easyJet index overall, thanks to its affordable hospitality and dependable shoulder-season deals on flights and hotels.

Known as the Pearl of the Black Sea, Nessebar is one of Bulgaria’s most remarkable destinations, with a blend of history, culture, and seaside charm, as well as charming cobblestone streets and a famous seafood scene.

Close behind in the list is the Budva Riviera in Montenegro, which boasts a range of idyllic beaches along a 35-kilometre stretch of the Adriatic coast in western Montenegro. Further down the table, value keeps rolling in destinations like Zadar and Nin in Croatia, Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol in Spain, and Halkidiki in Greece. These destinations pair clear seas with competitive apartment and hotel prices, meaning a seven-night stay rarely breaks the bank.
